TV stars turn RJs
Mona Singh and Gaurav Gera among others are all set to air shows on Reliance's new radio station.
You saw them on the small screen, but now you'll only get to hear them. Some of TV's most popular faces are going behind the microphone for Reliance's new radio frequency.
Pallavi Joshi, Vrajesh Hirjee, Mona Singh, Gaurav Gera and Sunil Pal are turning radio jockeys for Big 92.7 FM, a radio venture set up by Reliance and Adlabs.
Says Sunil Pal, "I'm very excited about being a radio jockey because it's a new medium for me and I have already started getting myself trained to understand the technical aspects." Sunil's show will be called either 'Dhamaal with Pal' or 'Bardaash Nahin Kar Paaogey'.
Similarly Pallavi, who'll be co-hosting the breakfast show in Mumbai with Vrajesh Hirjee, says, "The show will have to be lively and effervescent. We have been putting ourselves in the console and getting the feel of things." Pallavi has more reasons to be excited. "I don't need to be caked with make-up and I can go to work in my ganji and shorts!" she exclaims.
Gaurav will also be hosting a morning show with Mona Singh. "I know how TV shows and films are shot but I do not know how a radio show is made and aired. So I'm all up for trying a new medium of entertainment," he chortles.
Vishal Mull, national creative director, Big 92.7 FM, has several good reasons for TV stars being RJs. "These TV stars are household names with whom the listeners will form an instant connect. Through them we want to build radio as an aspirational medium."
