Ok , I dont know what else to say , apart from whatever has been said so far..
I agree , he has contributed more than just listen and practice to whatever steps shampa set for him :

Horror act - concept taken from one of his short films .
The promos ruined it a bit for me , by showing one major highlight of the act , shampa's " crab walk" ...
But i just loved all the sound effects and camera work .. and fab timing , esp when shampa is strangling him with the invisible rope and sushant jerks and stumbles at the right time ..
Chhau - His idea to incorporate mrityunjay , he got a folk form ( chhau ) which wasnt as widely known as bhangra or rajastani folk ..
But he just nailed it , be it the body language , or the attitude , expressions , or handling the sword .. Made good use of his martial arts training ..
teen ka tadka - oh , this guy loves dancing on patriotic songs .. seen him doing it before JDJ .. have no doubt that this was his idea too ..
And when he came to know about the solo round .. again chose a patriotic song ..

Rashmi did a fine job too..
Flamenco - TBH , this was one of my least fav. SumPa performance ..
But , when I first saw his video on IF where he is explaining about the concept .. I started smiling .. Again , he thought out of the box , by equating red with luck ..
luka chupi - he literally bared his soul that day for everyone to see ..
He was almost tearing up before the performance started (when he was watching his rehearsal AV) , but he had to immediately switch his mood and expressions , bcuz the beginning of the song required him to look happy .. He managed to do that , but as soon as Rehman's portion started , he couldnt stop his tears till the end of the performance ... 😔 ...
Aerial act and L&P - I was the most worried about these two , bcuz L&P is so different from contemp and jazz ( which is his forte..) and i didnt think he would be able to pull off an aerial with that cute tummy of his .. but I was so wrong ..
With shampa to teach him , guess there was no reason to be worried about in the first place..
Rehna tu - After chhau , this is one of my most fav . perf of SumPa ..
I just LOVED shampa's individual dancing portion in this , and when remo commented on that , i was nodding my head lol...
And i think this was lyrical hip hop ? was beautiful to watch ...
Ore piya- Awww .. aww .. and more aww ...☺️ .. how much more aww-licious can he get ? Again he interpreted the theme differently , by expressing his feelings for his first crush through dance , instead of paying her a tribute by just dancing on one of her songs ..
If the highlight of the horror act was the camera work & sound effects , then here it was definitely the lighting effects ...
I really did feel i was inside someone's head and watching a beautiful dream...
Chinese act- Well , i have seen him kick and break stuff before .. so i wasnt blown away or anything .. but it was neatly choreographed and executed ...
Face off ( teri deewani ) - OMG I loved it .. Had me wishing this performance was longer , and the "main act" of the show , instead of the face off ...
dhoom tana , chumma , ruk ja oh dil .. , group act ( joote de do ) - no one can even come close to this guy , when it is about energy , enthusiasm , and mischievous filmy expressions 😆 ...
Mere rang me - Ok , i really liked it a lot , not a 30 - wala performance but i didnt understand why he was marked comparatively less ...
After the aerial act , this too comes under the "one of their sweetest perf" category ...

And what should I say about shampa in particular .. She is easily one of the best choreographers that I have seen so far ..
And she comes across as someone who dances bcuz she is passionate about it .. you know , she dances for dance's sake ..
and not for the "additional perks" that come along with it .. like fame or money ...
She is so down to earth , humble and unassuming ...
And I just loved how she gave sushant so many solo portions , and allowed him to shine ...
And there were times when i felt , she was not appreciated as much as i would have liked .. so in the later part of the season , esp from the rehna tu performance when the judges started specially mentioning her and appreciating her dancing skills .. i felt really pleased ..

For me the two main highlights or strengths of this team were - Sushant's expressions and shampa's ability to merge the dance with the concept and the lyrics of the song ...

oh , and btw , i didnt particularly like contemporary before JDJ ... but now i have actually started liking it ..
I am keeping my fingers crossed for another SuMpa's performance in the future .. either in some award show .. or um.. some event for sony 🤔

And after watching SuMpa's performances on JDJ .. every time i watch sushant dance on stage from now on , I think only one thing will will be going through my mind the most -... "I wish shampa had choreographed it "

Same here lunzi,
Initially I didnt like much of contemporary, but the point when he came under training of Shampa, everything changed.
This changed the way Sushant started performing on stage and enjoying that form with grace, ( no doubt Priyanka told she hasnt seen any actor dancing with such grace)

That extra midas touch was given by Shampa, Result: now most of his best performances are contemporary.
Edit: forgot to add, nice long post above lunzi 😃
Me too loved "Rehna tu", it was so crisp and clear in their act compare it with any professional dancer, they will win hands down.

Oh, I agree with you Lunza and Soni! Although I've always loved Contemporary as a style, I have to concede that when it comes to Sushant doing it, there's a huge difference between what he was on, say, ZNKD and what he is now, after Jhalak with Shampa.
Oh, and the Salsa concept was from his short film? Wow! That's one thing I always loved about Sushant...how seriously he took Jhalak and each individual act, right from the base point of what they would say through their performance. Even the performances without a clearly etched concept per se had something to say, cliched hi kyun na ho, like Chumma Chumma. Besides, there's little else you can do with a song like that, lol. 😎
And I'm so with you on the Shampa being appreciated towards the end of the show. I used to keep hoping in the initial phase that they'd spotlight the choreographers in general, which is something Jhalak never does. But see, if you've got someone as outstanding as Shampa, there's only so long you can refuse her the spotlight, lol. Which is what happened, and I was thrilled at the judges giving her the praise that was her due, as choreographer as well as dancer. By the end of it, I was really happy that both Sushant and Shampa were appreciated equally, with neither being praised too much, because let's face it, they deserved every bit of the applause they received. Totally and completely. 😃

Hey 🤗

I seem to have finally arrived on the scene. And I can totally justify my delay by blaming my board exams. Now you don't ignore that, do you? Hehe.

Sushant and Shampa. Probably everything that I would have wanted to say about them back then is not going to see the light, but I hope I do manage something.

It's been a wonderful journey for them, and for us as audience too. We were introduced to idea's that seemed non conventional, we saw a boy-man stripping himself of his most private and personal emotions with that 'maa' act. And afcourse as much as we saw a brilliant dancer, we too saw the groW*H in that dancer.

It'll be absolutely unfair to say that Sushant hasn't grown as a dancer. Because he has. The first time I saw him was in ZNKD, and he seemed like the graceful dancer who kind of knew what he was doing. Kind of. Here in JDJ, by the end he was in complete control of himself. And that I believe, is credited to Shampa.

His Flamenco which I didn't like even a bit. Infact to be honest, or rather brutally honest, I was shocked when I saw him do that, I mean I was sitting in my living room, and wondering 'Did Sushant actually do that?' But sometimes, I guess it's not about being totally right or wrong, not about nailing it or screwing it up, it's about doing what you like, doing what you love and doing what you believe in.

And that is another aspect of Sushant-Shampa that I really liked. They didn't always aim to nail or aim to please, they did what they believed in, did something that was connected to their hearts, and it came out perfectly right. We've seen that and so have others.

Shampa. I like you, wasn't familiar with her. But when on some episode her pedigree was revelaed, I saw my mum and dad, exclaiming 'Aaah, that's why..!!' And my dad who was in awe of her skills beforehand seem to have been smitten by her later on. Haha ! But I guess, that's not restricted to him alone. It included me and a lot of other people to. She was brilliant to say the least, and I don't think I exactly know how to explain how her mind worked, or her dances turned into magic on screen. Because that, is something that remains an enigma to most of us.

Well, they made us dance, laugh, cry and wonder, and most importantly they made us fall in love with them, and proved themselves over and over again. Never failing to meet our expectations. Who cares if they didn't bag that trophy? A million people declared them them the winner earlier on only, and for me they will truly be the winners of the show.

Loads of Love,

Aruuu 🤗

^^^ whew .. Finally u posted lol.. i kept checking this thread to see if have posted .. then i thought u mite have forgotten or something..

Flamenco is my least fav performance too .. i think it must be the only perf of theirs which i havent seen more than twice ..
Still , i admired the fact that they didnt go for the obvious .. by linking red to love , blood etc ...
I thought it was quite a unique concept , but they stumbled big time while executing it ..

And yes , they did what they believed in , it was about their conviction , and what their heart said ..

It would have been easy for them to have stuck to plain hard core dancing , without putting in much thought into the "story" aspect or connection to the lyrics.. if sushant had done that right from the beginning , i feel he would have got only 29s and 30's and not slipped to even 27 ..
bcuz the expectations from the judges side increased to such an extent that any performance of his which had an "ordinary" concept or no concept fetched him less than perfect score ..

ALL their performances are etched in my mind , i dont think we are going to see this level of performances in any of the upcoming seasons ..
Bcuz it wasnt just Shampa's choreography or Sushant's dancing ,
It was a team work in the true sense ... merging of ideas from two minds ..

Aaahh.. i miss them !!!!

Oh yay, you're finally here Aruu! 🤗
Agree with just about everything you've said, and with everything Lunza's added after. 😊
The Flamenco...for me personally, it's one of those performances that grow on you as you watch them again. Took a while for me to warm upto it. With all their other performances, I was never content with just the one telecast on TV. I think the folder dedicated to Sushant and Shampa sitting on my desktop is ample proof of how insubstantial it feels, for me, to watch any of their acts just once. Lol. The Flamenco was the first act I didn't feel the urgency to watch again. Once was good enough for me, and that's rather unusual in my case. Then later, when I was amassing their routines on my PC I downloaded it just for memory's sake, and ended up rather enjoying it eventually. I'd still place it on the lower wrung by their standards, they've definitely done better acts, but then there's low for Sushant-Shampa and there's low for everybody else. Not quite the same thing. And I don't even care how fangirl-y I sound when I say that, because as far as I'm concerned, it really isn't.
Oh, and I so agree with you Lunza, on the Concept point. I think that had something to do with their Finale performance being scored lower than the other two contenders' too. The concept was cliched, but if one looks at the dancing in there, I thought they were just as good as the others, if not better. The act wasn't perfect 30-worthy, yes, but it could certainly have been level with the rest in the scores department. 😳
Damn. Now I miss them too.

@Lunza

Hahaha, it's nice to hear that someone was waiting for me to comment. Though I never forget to comment, I am just ermm, a little messed up with timings. Little. Okay, Nandini is totally going to disagree with that. Hehe.

But I totally agree with what you said. And especially with the 'ordinary' and 'out-of-the-box concepts. I mean we always expected something 'new from the team' right. And like you said, it'll be a while I guess, before we see such a good jodi :)

@Nandini

Where have you been? I have PM'ed you sooooo many times, to not recieve even one reply or hint that you're still on this earth. I am a little mad at youu ! Where have you actualllyy beeeeen? Kaaahaaain hoo?

Yeah, now that my anger has been expressed, let me be sweet and ask, kaisi ho? 😆 Arrey, I totally agree with what you said, so I am not even bothering expanding on anything, barring the fact that you have a folder dedicated to them? Awwwwww, that's so sweeett :D

And as for the last perfomance, I actually liked it you know. I mean, I would have felt really weird if the show would have finished without a romantic perfomance. Oh, there Arushi-the-romantic is unleashed. Tsk tsk.

🤗

PS: I miss them toooo <3

Aruuu...!! 🤗
Hey, I was waiting for you to comment too. I've learnt over time to expect you back eventually. Eventually. 😆 And I'm reallyyyyy sorry about that PM. First it was IF going all funny on me, and then it was my Term Paper. Sorryyyy! Will be writing to you tonight. 😊
Oh, I loved Sushant and Shampa's finale performance. I think we're both just about level in the romantic department, lol, and you know that pretty darn well. I had hoped and hoped for a true-blue act of mush from these two since the very beginning, and when I finally did get it, I couldn't have been happier. Probably why the lower scores annoyed me more than usual...😆
The folder. Lol, yeah. I've stored videos of all their performances, to watch and feel happy whenever I need a breather. Every time I log on to my PC, it greets me on my desktop and makes me smile thinking I have that to turn to when my paper stresses the crap out of me. Which is what it's been like lately, so yeah. Another thing for me to thank Sushant and Shampa for, lol. 😃
Acha, by the way, did any of you guys watch Jashn-e-Jhalak? Shampa said on FB that she'd be performing in it tonight. I couldn't catch it, did any of you? 😊

Lovely post Arushi!!!

I personally liked the Flamenco bit for two reasons- 1.) An innovative concept 2.) Use of a new, different and difficult dance form, rather than sticking to their strengths- contemporary, jazz and so on.

If oneobserves, when contestants were given theme based rounds, they used to pick up forms which were their strengths, like contemporary, bollywood and so on.

Sushant-shampa didn't do that. I mean, yes, I will agree that they did their share of contemporary, jazz too, but they also tried to do different dances in the theme based rounds, when no particular form was given--- they did flamenco and lyrical hip-hop. In fact, contrary to what people say, they did more dance forms than all other contestants. They didn't keep sticking to their strengths all the time (unlike some other people *cough Cough* ) They loved experimenting. No wonder, Sushant said that flamenco was one of his favourite performances.

Even the maa performance. I felt it was not done from a competition point of view at all. It was done from the heart, and was aimed as a tribute.

Nandini, hi-fi to you! I too ahve a folder full of their performances, and I watch them whenever I miss them. I've actually memorized some of the steps now, although I execute them pathetically... hehehehe.
