Hi,

So I'm not sure why Tani didn't open a "rate the performances thread today. :( lol I always look forward to those. Anyways, I decided to open this topic for any of us in here who'd still like to discuss dance!

I found the whole theme of today's episode totally pointless and dumb. What a total waste of an episode. šŸ‘ŽšŸ¼ What is the point of dancing ON a "prop"?? šŸ˜• And not step on the stage?? Isn't the whole point of a STAGE to dance on?? šŸ˜• You can't even call it a "prop" in that case! It's like a whole frickin' set/stage itself! Totally limits your creativity (instead of enhancing it) as well. I wouldn't call what the contestants used in their performances today "props" at all. Not one of the performances today included DANCING! It was all hanging/doing various acrobatics and stunts on their respective props. Actually maybe Mahi's team for once actually had dancing today. Go figure. But she was totally loosing her balance and not comfortable at all so it was really pointless. I don't get how dancing on a higher surface instead of on the stage enhances a dance performance! There are various set ups on the stage already like the stairs/slide etc. The usage of this "prop" today totally limited the choreography/creativity of all the performances and the result was a completely boring episode. šŸ‘ŽšŸ¼ I don't think any of the performances today deserved a 30 actually since there wasn't any dance involved at all!! The useless addition of that prop made all the contestants uncomfortable you could tell. Meh, what a waste. Seriously a dumb concept I think. šŸ‘ŽšŸ¼

Ooooh thank you Pallavi for making this post! I wanted to share my views on this one too but somehow felt awkward in saying it aloud.

Where was the dance yaar??? One can put in some acrobatics to enhance a dance performance, but how can there be a round only on acrobatics, cos that's what I felt everything was. They could have done the same acrobatics on any other song, was what I felt and that somehow lowered the whole impact- the energy didn't flow on to the person watching the performance-- (like many times we sway when someone is dancing or tap our feet too). Isn't dance supposed to be according to the song and going with the music, lyrics etc???

Didn't like the round.

Exactly! There was hardly any dance in today's episode! Like you said, the contestants could have used ANY song today and it wouldn't have mattered.

@ bold: Well put! That's EXACTLY it! There was absolutely no connect. And I blame the theme totally. You can't do much with a "challenge" like that. This is not a circus! It's a dance show. Giving props is different. With props, you can include them in your dancing, which would ENHANCE your creativity and scope of possibilities. But this kind of a challenge actually restricts you from doing much. All you can really do is do acrobatics/stunts. Like you said, putting in acrobatics or stunts can spice up a performance but at the end of the day, it's a DANCE show. Even the judges especially Remo looked bored today. šŸ˜›šŸ˜†

yup.. agreed, and Salman getting 30, didn't go down to well, all they did was Acrobatics, well, now the way show is going, i wont be surprised if Salman and yana wins. Cuz, tomm, they will perform again, and Yana and Salman are doing India Dance, that would put them safely into top 3, they will not be in danger zone, write it, sign it and seal it..

I'm actually looking forward to watching Salman and Yaana do classical and some DANCING for once instead of their usual lifts/stunts.

About today though, I don't just mean Salman and Yaana but ALL the contestants today seemed to be at a disadvantage with this challenge. Not one of them was able to show us their dancing skills properly because they were all restricted with this "prop" challenge. Even Yaana was having difficulty you could tell. Their slide bit wasn't that smooth, nor was the timing etc. just right. But the main point is that there was hardly any dance!

It's hard to say who will win at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone wins actually the way things are going. But Salman and Yaana do deserve to be in top 3 though, based on their overall performances no doubt about that. I'm just making a point about today's episode.

happy to know atleast someone is interested in discussing about DANCE in this forum which rarely happens here

yesterdays episode was SOOOOO BOOOORING that i m not even looking forward to today's episode....

usually at this point of time the contestants should be in top form with each of them coming up with their best performances(that is what happens in most of the dance reality shows) but i don't see it happening in JDJ... don't know why......may be i m expecting too much....

JDJ –3 Bhutia-sonia danced on table without touching the floor. It was really thrilling risky performance and good choreographed .

LOL I totally agree. I was completely bored watching yesterday's episode.

So true. Actually I find that near the end of all dance reality shows, the performances of contestants actually go down. šŸ˜• I think it has to do with running out of creativity near the end since it's all been done already. Also the pressure would be a part of it I think. Towards the end, I think the focus becomes more on winning, instead of dancing for the love of it you know what I mean? It's just a more competitive environment overall, and I think creativity flourishes more with less pressure/competitiveness no?

Anyways, I think a theme such as the contestants were given today makes things worse as it just adds unnecessary difficulty with no purpose. It limits your creativity even more.

But I think it was a good call to let the contestants give each other challenges as we'll see tomorrow. I think that was a good idea so let's see what tomorrow's episode is like. But if the format of the show keeps coming up with such DUMB and pointless themes such as these, I don't see how we can see interesting performances and the contestants bringing out their best.

O yeah, good example. I remember that performance. But see, even that performance was mostly lifts only. There wasn't much actual dance although yes the emotion was there. So it goes with my point, that having such a "challenge" restricts your choreography and creativity. You can't really do much footwork in that case.

But still you're right, there at least Sonia had a vision. But in today (yesterday's) episode, all the contestants were pretty much only using the "prop" to do stunts/acrobatics etc. šŸ˜• I guess it was a mix of both, a pretty un-inspiring challenge and a lack of creativity from the choreographers. So the performances didn't come out anything extraordinary which is the whole point of giving such a challenge right? So that we can see something original and creative. But the opposite happened.
