'I love doing different things'
Like her stepmother-in-law and yesteryear's well-known film cabaret dancer Helen, Malaika Arora Khan has no problem being called an item girl simply because she loves dancing and gets to have her share of fun. Malaika recently took the box office by storm with her raunchy Munni Badnaam Hui act in Dabangg. But before she does another sexy number on the silver screen, Malaika will be seen on TV once again; doing what she is best known for — judge contestants for their dancing skills. Having judged two big-ticket shows earlier, Malaika will now judge the fourth season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa along with Madhuri Dixit.
"I love doing different things. My criterion for doing reality shows is that they should be different because I get bored of doing the same shows over and over again. Jhalak is a different format and it's going to be great fun because it has an interesting mix of people who essentially are non-dancers," she elaborates. Speaking about the show, she adds, "In terms of dance forms, it has lot of variety, both Western and Indian."
Many of the participants may not be good dancers. But the same cannot be said about Yana Gupta and Krushna Abhishek. Both have proved their mettle as dancers. Malaika doesn't disagree, but says Yana and Krushna have other attributes to their careers. "Yana is not a non-dancer but she is a model, brand ambassador and a socialite as well. Krushna is a very good stand-up comedian," she defends.
While Remo D'Souza will judge contestants technically and Madhuri will focus on expressions, comfort level and personality, Malaika will mark contestants for their confidence and energy levels.
Besides judging, she is mum about what else she will do on the show. "There are lots of surprises. So wait and watch," she avers. She would love to see contestants dance to some of her film songs, particularly Munni badnaam hui. "I think that will be a tribute," she adds.
