Amongst the 12 participants, Renuka Shahane and Shekhar Suman are being lauded in particular for the two are non-dancers and not as young as their competitors.
TOI spoke to Renuka Shahane on Jhalak, Madhuri and much more...
You rocked Jhalak Dikhla Ja's first episode, inspite of not being a dancer!
I am glad people appreciated my attempt. I was very apprehensive. I've barely danced even in my films or tv shows that I've done in the past. All the credit goes to my choreographer Jai.
Madhuri danced on Lo Chali Main from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun with you!
It's so comforting to have her on the show! I know her and she is so encouraging and sweet. We talk about our children all the time. Mulancha kaay (what about kids) is the common question that occupies our minds since we both have similar responsibilities.
What about Remo and Malaika?
I was a bit sceptical about both since they are known to be stricter. Remo is into the technicalities of dancing so I am all the more scared of him. But unlike my assumption they too are kind towards me.
Doesn't Madhuri give you any tips on dancing?
The contestants and judges barely interact before the show. So that unfortunately doesn't happen.
Your weight is another problem area according to you.
I have strained my knee muscle and doctors have in fact advised me to rest. However, since I had already committed to Jhalak, I couldn't back out. It won't be possible for me to do something extra but I will dance and lose weight.
What's next on Jhalak?
I will be doing Tango next which is supposed to be a passionate dance form! For me it would be an ultimate challenge since I've never displayed any form of passion onscreen before! I also attempted a Michael Jackson step in my first performance. I will shed my apprehensions eventually.
Jhalak has a Marathi flavour this season.
It does. Madhuri, me, Ankita Lokhande, choreographers Vrushali and Nishant, host Sumit Raghavan.. all of us keep yaking in Marathi all the time. The rest keep wondering what are we upto! I am going to try my best to make my Marathi fans proud of myself. May be I should attempt a Lavni for them!
