Wat was it with Deepak and his Guruji 😆😆😆 Deepak suggested it was some unknown dance form that he wanted to bring to the forefront... Then when mistakes were pointed out, he introduced his guruji😆😆 Then guruji was asked to come and Saroj put him under the scanner to which he danced a step😆 and had no convincing answer 😆

there was nothing wrong with the guruji but he should have been more agile and quick with his explanation...infact my opinion is that ....that night a great dance form of south karnataka was sidelined and ridiculed by saroj and vaibhavi....atleast vaibhavi showed some interest but saroj did not even give the guruji a proper chance to speak about the folk dance form...she being a kathak exponent should have had some knowledge that there is a world beyond your salsa and samba.......for people of the forum who may have shown some intrest in this dance form this is it......
              Yakshagana

One of the theatre forms generally described as folk but possessing a strong classical connection is the Yakshagana. It is a typical folk form of drama in this region, just as Kathakali is in neighbouring Kerala. Unlike the stylised costumes and masks of Kathakali, Yakshagana is a true people's theatre, commonly staged in the paddy fields at night and the themes are the same as all over India, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and mythological tales from the Puranas. In predominantly rural areas with little or no transportation, Yakshagana enjoys immense popularity and its exponents are honoured just as great stage artistes are. Although the name signifies the music of celestial beings, Yakshagana is an amalgam of the sky with the earth. here is both mystery and robustness about this form in which singing and drumming merge with dancing, and words with gestural interpretation, and players clad in costumes of striking colour and contours. It is the cherished cultural possession of the coastal districts of Karnataka.

Dr. K.S. Karanth is the foremost authority on Yakshagana and has been working on all its aspects, amely--dance, music, and literature, since 1930. He has led the way to a deep and systematic study of this art form. He has spent decades travelling to remote villages within Karnataka to inspect and study every Yakshagana manuscript, the earliest going back to A.D. 1651. With his fine literary judgement and aesthetic sensibility, he has traced the changing trends in the performance of Yakshagana. He has interacted with hundreds of Yakshagana artistes to find out what customs in training and interpretation had prevailed earlier and had fallen into disuse and deserved to be resuscitated. He has put together his findings in the shape of two standard books Yakshagana-Bayalata (1958) in Kannada, and Yakshagana in Kannada and English (1975). The present volume is a revised edition of the earlier book, with additional material and illustrations.

yes one aspect i agree with you that deepak should have shown more knowledge and convincing power when he attempted this dance form...infact he dressed more like a kathakali artist than a Yakshagana artist........otherwise there is nothing to laugh so much about......

His costume was fine and we immediately knew it was Yakshagana. Only that deepak could not really explain the dance properly....and i do not see why Saroj khan had to ridicule the performance and his hand mudras. Is it a big mistake to use ones hand is one particular way?

@shabari

I agree with you on the point that Saroj should not have ridiculed the dance form......i have not seen Yakshagana previously also......thats why i was so much intrigued with the dance form.........what surprised me more was that Vaibhavi referred it as Kathakali......i have seen Kathakali before and from the get up only i can say that it was not Kathakali but something else.....if a non-dancer like me can understand this judges who are judging a dance show should at least have some knowledge about all sorts of dance.

Saroj Khan didn't show interest in the danceform at all. All she could see was her ''knoweldge of kathak'' and all that. True, she is a good choreographer, but she could atleast have some respect for the Guruji. Deepak tried to come with something new, and I think he was fantastic, and they got nice scores too, but i didn't like that Saroj Khan ridiculed Guruji..

@jinniez

But there is a difference between the dresses of a Kathakali dancer and yakshagana dancer......i checked both costumes on google just now.
