Yes--jhalak dikhla jaa is an indian version of dancing with the stars/ strictly come dancing

So why is it not following that format
I mean in the english/uk/usa/australia version
Each celeb has to learn one dance a week a dance style -
Eg week 1 everyone does foxtrot only
Week 2 everyone does tango
Week 3 everyone does salsa

U get my gist.. In this way the show will be proper format everyone will be judged on DANCE not perfomance or gymnastics or aerobics... And everyone will be given points for same type of dance..

Jhalak seems freestyle do what you wnat... Dont dance etc... Jhalak judges, producers, and owners please watch uk usa versions and make sure next year your show is correct

But what can you do when some contestants perform only one style in the name of all others? and what's more, get acclaimed for it? 😕

Anyway, I agree and disagree. I think having only one style per week will make the episode monotonous, because our choreographers aren't creative or innovative enough to create brilliant pieces from the limited material given.

I agree in the sense that it will probably streamline things and make it easier to compare and judge. But still, cons over pros.

I have watched both and I know where you're coming from. But this is India and the concepts that work in UK and US may not work here too.

I do partially agree, doing one or two dance styles every week will make it easier for us to compare and see how good the contestants are and how versatile they are but like U-No-Poo said it has it limitations... But I do wish thu had one week where every one danced to the same style... No stretches, no props, no comedy... Just Pure dance...

I remember JDJ1 used to follow that format. Dancing with the Stars is a Ballroom dancing compeition if you look at the first UK series and the US ones too.

And there are many other adaptations of it to other countires as well; I have no idea if all of them follow this only-ballroom-dances format but I guess with the Indian version they want to also show other dance forms - strictly indian like lavani, bollywood, kathak etc while also including western ones like ballroom (salsa, tango, waltz, foxtrot, argentine tango (ballroom or US - street form is slightly different) etc) and other dance forms too like ballet, contemporary and recent ones like hip-hop etc

But like someone else said earlier - what works for UK/US versions might not work for Indian version

In Jhalak the focus seems to be on the performance while in UK/US version the focus is on the dance. The thing is that I think Indian audiences as in the aam janta, in general, would prefer performances as they have more entertainment and masala than watching only dances. It's to do with culture too because in UK/US the focus is less on the story telling and more on the technicality of the dance but in India (due to the Bollywood influence) the focus seems to be on the story telling and that's what most people want to see - at least that's what I have gathered. I could be wrong though so don't quote me on it. It's just my guess.

But, I, personally would like to see more dances than performances - may be about twice or thrice in the whole series running they can have performances but all the other ones should be dance focused and I surely would have preferred and loved to see strict Ballroom dancing but as I like Contemporary and Modern dances too so I don't mind it that much😳
