I partially agree with tm. JDJ 1 actually followed the international format. It was easier to compare the performance of contestants then. I liked that version much better.
The main problem here is that none of our choreographers here are as technically trained as in the US, UK , Australia versions. It was evident in the episode where the foreign choreographers came here. They are all techinically proficient in all ballroom formats (Ivetta was even a 5 time world champion)
Some of our choreographers has not even studied most of the formats done on the show. They are mostly freestyle dancers. So they are not able to produce technically brilliant pieces every week. Thats why its more abt story telling, lip sync, ariel acts and martial arts in JDJ and not abt lines or technique.
Our audience do like drama but I think it is mostly the inadequacy of choreographers reason for this format. Most of the choreographers are DID alumni not dancers who has studied one dance form for years.
