Gurmeet looks for a ticket to Bollywood
Pure dancing skills notwithstanding, you need popularity to build your vote bank when you have opponents like heartland favourite Ravi Kissen pitted against you. Seems TV hunk Gurmeet Choudhary scores pretty well on that front given his popular avatars of Ram and Maan Singh Khurana in the drama series Ramayana and Geet Hui Sabse Parayi.
Combined with his chiselled looks and dancing skills, Gurmeet, who currently plays Yash in Punar Vivah, is quite confident of winning hearts in the very competitive Jhalak Dikhla Jaa on Colors.
The actor, who is trained in martial arts and loves action sequences, says he will add some stunts to his acts on the show as well. "I am quite adept at doing the back somersault and will try to incorporate something similar in my dance. Even the jumps and mid-air kicks will be inspired by martial art techniques. I have done gymnastics as well. So you can expect a mix in my performances. The thing is I want to create my own style, building on my strengths, and impress everyone," says the actor, who is rehearsing till the wee hours in his quest for perfection.
"It is just because of dance that I am surviving my schedules. I shoot for almost 12 hours and then practise till three in the morning. I hardly get three hours of sleep. Even then, I don't feel exhausted. On the contrary, I feel quite fresh. Dance destresses me and gives me energy for the rest of the day," he says and adds that he wants to learn Jazz and Rumba while on the show.
Gurmeet feels dance is part of a process of becoming a good actor. "Your knowledge of dance gives you an edge over others, and if you are a trained dancer you do not have to struggle much to polish your acting skills. It lends you an art of expression. Though I am not a trained artiste, dance has been a part of my life in some way or the other. And I wish it remains that way," he says.
He hopes his acts and performances on the show would help him get the attention of producers and directors and maybe even an offer from Bollywood. "I debuted on TV because I thought it would give me exposure and facilitate my entry into the film industry. Though I enjoy working in serials, Bollywood is my ultimate destination. Won't say that the exposure didn't pay off. I did get some offers but nothing was interesting enough. I am waiting for the right script," he says.
