Ayub Khan and Renuka Shahane in Jeete Hain... |
A 20-year-leap formula seems to have found wide acceptance as the ideal remedy to resurrect a show on the great Indian television scene. Jeete Hain Jiske Liye, launched with much fanfare just a month ago is already bracing up to take the 'great leap'. Will this premature leap benefit the show that has failed to strike a chord with the audiences?
The reason behind the generation jump is quite simple. Owing to dismal TRPs the track will now be spiced up and stirred. April 23 is the day designate for the facelift expected from Priya Wal of Remix fame and Yuvraj of Maayka fame. The duo will play Renuka Shahane and Ayub Khan's grown-up children.
However, this will be a leap with a difference. No grey streaks and wrinkles for Renuka Shahane who will slide into the character of a middle-aged woman. On the contrary Renuka aka Anjali will don a glamorous avatar quite like that of Hema Malini's in Baghban. On the verge of a makeover, Renuka says, "I am looking forward to the leap. I am going to play a 46-year-old woman. After a lot of trials and tribulations (basically, what's gone on in the 20-year interim) my character returns to avenge on the killer."
Renuka says that there are more changes in the offing. "I play a very complex character (laughs). In fact, I am surprised that the leap did not take place in the first 20 episodes itself! Also, I have no issue playing mother to teenagers on the show," says Renuka.
What does soon-to-be-old Ayub Khan have to say? "I haven't had the time to sit and discuss my look and details with the production house yet as we have been shooting back- to-back for the show. I am sure I will have a grey-haired look. The dynamics of my relationship with Renuka will change of course. I am fine with playing a father to teenaged kids as long as they pay me well," laughs Ayub.
Producer Deeya Singh who managed to design this disaster after Jassi… takes up cudgels for her ailing show and says, "We always planned to take the show forward by way of a generation leap. In fact, since it is happening so soon on our show we are looking at it as a challenge. I agree that it will be tough to give the show a makeover overnight. We have roped in four young actors too."
The actors will soon have a 'look test' for the leap and will begin shooting from next week.
