Actor agrees to special appearance in TV show!

Saif Ali Khan fans loved watching the actor on the hit television show Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. Now Vivek Oberoi is hoping for a similarly enthusiastic response from his fans! The actor is set to become the latest Bollywood celebrity to feature in the show. Vivek will play his over-the-top character from the recent Vanilla Coke adverts, together with Elvis Presley costume!

An interesting new development is taking place in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. Mandira Bedi will make a special appearance in this popular Sony soap at 9.30 p.m. for the episodes being telecast on November 5 and 6.

The story goes like this: Armaan and Raj want to find a perfect brand ambassador for Gulmohur House and they zero in on the vivacious Mandira Bedi. A successful celebrity like her, not to mention the good looks, seems to be the apt choice to be Gulmohur's brand ambassador. So will she join the Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin team? "Maybe, or maybe not. We are leaving the possibilities open," says Bedi, who plays herself.

Though she hasn't been able to follow the serial religiously owing to her busy schedule, Bedi was happy to have landed this opportunity to work in a serial that is not like the rest of them. "It stands out in the crowd of saas-bahu soaps." That is where the similarity ends. "I am told what to speak and how to behave according to the requirements of the character. Tony and Deeya Singh, producer and director of Jassi…, wanted a known face and I guess I fitted the bill." Normally, such a step is taken to boost TRPs. But that is not the case here asserts Sunil Lulla, Executive VP Sony Entertainment Television: "It is stunt programming that helps generates viewer interest."

An answer to every behenji's dream, Jassi… has managed to garner a fair share of popularity. The show has been adapted from the Columbian series Yo Soy Betty La Fea, one of the most popular soaps aired across 25 countries. Its depiction of real life conflicts between the middle class and high-society have clicked with viewers across the globe. Set in contemporary India, Jassi... contrasts the world of a plain, middle-class girl with that of the fashion world where she seeks acceptance. It has gained further popularity with Jassi.. sms messages and the often used line in conversation. But, for some strange reason, it doesn't show in the TRPs. For the week ending Oct. 11, the TRP for Jassi ...was 4.95. For the same week, Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii on Star Plus got 10 TRP points.
