Armaan has nearly caught up with the panting Nandu when he realizes that someone else—and a very nasty someone it seems!—is following him. With an unearthly yell, he turns around and pounces on the shadowy figure. Nandu seizes the opportunity to duck behind a clump of trees. He sees the two engaged in a rough-and-tumble, with Meghna yelling, "Mr. Ghost….Mr.Ghost….listen to me…!" and Armaan yelling, "How dare you….chor!" Of course, Mr.Verma has no idea that the "ghost" is Armaan himself, and thinks, "Iss Meghna ki daad deni padegi……aakhir bhoot se ulajh hi gayi! Main hota toh meri jaan aise hi nikal jaati! Par Nandan Verma, ab bhi jaan salaamat nahin hai……iss bhoot ka dhyan phir se tumhari taraf gaya toh tumhari vaat lag jayegi……bhaago yahaan se!"
With this thought, he slips out quietly from his hiding place and, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa under his breath, makes his way through the shadows towards the house.
Meanwhile, Jassi has reached the banyan tree where Nandu and Meghna had been sitting. She sees the traces of the sance Meghna had set up—the incense, the mystical rug, the candles—and frowns. "Yeh sab kuch…jaana-pehchaana lag raha hai. Par…….yahaan koi hai kyun nahin? Aakhir kaun tha yahaan….aur Armaan kahaan hai? Yahin toh aaye the…" She shivers and looks around.
At this moment, Chaman and Beauty come running up. They give a start of surprise on seeing her.
Beauty: Jassi didi…..aap yahaan? Armaan jeeju kahaan hai?
Jassi steps forward and throws herself into Beauty's arms. "Main nahin jaanti, Beauty", she chokes. "Yahaan shaayad koi chor the…..Armaan ne unhe dekha aur unke peeche chale gaye….lekin ab mujhe samajh nahin aa raha ki main apne Armaan ko kahaan dhundoo!"
Beauty rubs her back comfortingly. Chaman exclaims, "Hamare pind mein chor! Aisa toh shaayad hi kabhi hua hai! Agar mujhe mil gaye toh main unhe chodunga nahin….."
Beauty: (putting up a hand to calm him) Yeh sab baad mein veerji……abhi toh hamne jeeju ki talaash karni hai….
Just then Chaman sees a figure in the distance. "Oye…..wo kaun hamare ghar ki taraf ja raha hai?"
Cursing in Punjabi, Chaman sprints towards the figure and pins him to the ground. Pounding him for all he is worth, he turns the man's face upwards, and finds it is Nandu!
Chaman: (apologetically) Nandu ji…..aap??
Nandu: (indignantly) Toh kya mera bhoot hoga? (sarcastically) Waise, kal se bhooton ki baatein sun-sun kar shaayad main bhoot hi ban gaya hun…..zaraa dhyan se dekhna Chaman…meri parchayi zameen par pad rahi hai kya?
Chaman: Lekin Nandu ji….aap yahaan kya kar rahe hai? Beauty aur main toh aapko dhoond rahe the…..aapke saath Meghna jib hi thi na?
Nandu: (shuddering) Haan, thi toh sahi…..lekin Chaman….(dramatically) Usse bhoot le gaya!
Chaman: Kya????
On their way back towards the tree where Jassi and Beauty are waiting anxiously, Nandu relates with great impact, how a deathly white ghost with long hair first followed him but then swooped down upon Meghna, choosing her as his prey. Chaman is shivering.
They reach the tree to find relief apparent on Beauty's face. "Babaji ki kripa hai….aap theek hai…"
Jassi grabs hold of his arm. "Nandu…..Armaan kahaan hai?"
Nandu: (startled) Armaan? Usse kya hua? Wo toh ghar par hi hai na? Aur tu yahaan kya kar rahi hai?
Chaman explains what nandu has just told him. As he finishes, Jassi's face broadens into a grin. She sits down under the tree and laughs her heart out. The others stare in surprise.
Chaman: (whispering) Beauty…lagta hai, jassi didi ko bahut gehra sadma laga hai…..dekho na kya haalat ho gayi hai…
Beauty nudges him to keep quiet. By now Nandu has also understood what has happened and is smiling, albeit a little embarrassedly. He thinks, "Iska matlab hai….wo koi bhoot nahin, Armaan tha….aur main Armaan se darr kar bhaag raha tha! Thank God, Raj Malhotra yahaan nahin hai….wo toh mujhe yeh baat kabhi bhoolne na deta!"
He quickly explains matters to the mystified Chaman and Beauty. Everyone suddenly relaxes. Then Jassi voices everyone's thought, "Par ab wo dono kahaan hai?"
Tomorrow: Laut ke buddhu….ghar ko aaye!
