After winning hearts with her girl-next-door image, Jassi err Mona Singh is basking in her recent success. With her on-screen persona of an ugly duckling - wearing thick glasses and braces, the lady has managed to create a place for herself in the world where only stereotypes work.
Mona, who was recently in Pune, to pay a flying visit to St Mira's College, where she studied for five years, had an entire crowd cheering for her. Almost one thousand students waited to catch a glimpse of the wonder-girl of television.
As soon as the lady came out of her car, the crowd got berserk, almost causing a stampede. Admist the chaos, someone even stepped on her foot, but that didn't bother the 'nice girl'. PT caught with her to find out her journey from a small-time model from Pune to India's television idol.
I was in Pune for five years as I was doing BCom. Although I took part in all the cultural activities like singing, dancing, plays, fashion shows etc, but I wasn't too much into studies. But after achieving success in the glamour world, I think I've made my teachers proud.
I remember spending hanging out on MG Road and Koregaon Park when I was in Pune. I just freaked out in the college canteen, gobbling-up vada-pav during my college days.
The big break
Before I got the big break on small screen, I had my fingers in many pies at the same time. I used to model, was running an event management company and even worked as a model co-ordinator. But during the last three I've worked really hard. In fact I spend more time on the sets than at home. I start shooting at 8.30 am and work till 2.30 pm.
Bollywood calling
I have recently signed a Bollywood film. I accepted the offer because I found the script very interesting. My role in the film is very different and challenging. Although I can't reveal much about my role and the film right now, all I can say is that it is produced by Bobby Pushkarna who had produced Page 3.
I am very clear on thing- although I am open to interesting roles in movies, I am not going to do item songs. But working in films doesn't mean that I am going to quit television.
I am always asked whether girls should go in for makeovers. I want to say that if somebody wants to look beautiful and attractive, then they should go ahead and do it. There is no harm in getting a makeover done. As far as I am concerned, I had unconventional looks when I started with modelling, so looking attractive was quite a big challenge for me.
No time for love
I am so busy right now that there is no time for love. It's only work, work and work. As far as rumours of my link-up with singer-actor Karan Oberoi are concerned, let me tell you we are just friends and the whole thing has been hyped by the media. Guess, that's the price one has to pay as a celebrity.
Flowing along.
I am told that for those born on October 8, planning never work. I guess that's the reason, I don't plan anything. I prefer going with the flow. But this year my only resolution is that I am going to work harder.
