| Komolika Guha Thakurta, Maninee Mihir Mishra and Rakshanda Khan caught our eye with their dazzling smiles at the Indian Telly awards yesterday. Pics: Sujeet Jaiswal | Sony's Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin ruled the Indian Telly Awards night at Chitrakut ground, Andheri.
Not only did the show pick up the best daily serial award, its lead actors Mona Singh (Jassi) and Apurva Agnihotri (Armaan) got the awards for the best actors in the popular category.
Rakshanda Khan also joined her teammates in the winning list by picking up the best negative role (female) — as Mallika in a tie with Urvashi Dholakia as Komolika (in Kasautii Zindagi Kay).
Dancing divas
Among performances, it was an anticlimax as the much hyped and talked about Rajeev Khandelwal-Aamna Shariff item number proved to be a thanda affair. On the other hand, Eijaz Khan and Shama Sikander brought the house down with their energetic medley of today's hottest songs.
The award show, which will be telecast on Sony, played the fair card by awarding its rival Star Plus the best entertainment channel trophy.
Star snub?
However, not a single member from Star was available at the venue to pick up the award. The category that made heads turn was Manish Goswami's Sarrkar that took home the prize for the best ensemble.
Not many expected the show to win anything last night. Will this prove to be an attempt to revive the drama that was talked about being pushed to the afternoon slot by the channel?

Unlike the last television award show, the Telly awards had a demarcated seating arrangement, which unfortunately kept the popular actors quite far away from their fans and the audience.
Queen bee Ekta Kapoor was spotted cheering and giggling with her close friend Mushtaq who went on stage to collect the award on behalf of Anita (former Natassha) of Kavyanjali fame for the best on screen couple along with Eijaz Khan.
Spouse's Day out
The final segment of popular awards wasn't much of a shocker when Shilpa Saklani and Karan Oberoi graced the stage to announce the winners for the best actor and actress.
Karan couldn't stop gushing about his co-star Mona Singh winning the award (the two are supposed to be dating each other). When Shilpa opened the envelope to announce the actor, it was already decided that if Karan gave Mona the award, then she would also hand it over to the love of her life.
Shilpa let her screeching and screaming express who the winner was. Husband Apurva Agnihotri seemed more in control, and like everyone else, he thanked the mentors of his show.
Overall the show wasn't a washout, but neither was it WOW. |
