She must have saved him... or maybe her real son was gone because of Sid? (He tried to save Sid, but himself got killed, in the process?) and maybe Sid vowed to take his place and be with her in return.. as he felt guilt? who knows.. and she is protective of him, because, she dont want to lose a 'son?'
