He looked at the written words on the plaster once again. The kids had written their heart out. But could he?
He made her sit beside him and held her plastered arm in his left arm, the fingers of their hands intertwining on their own.
His hands were cold but the touch spread a warmth over her whole body.
"What should I write?" He murmured, concentrating hard. His forehead was full of creases. Before Ragini could stop herself, she used the thumb of her good hand and swiped it upwards on his forehead to remove the wrinkles. She had done this after 18 years. They looked at each other, their eyes talking but neither of them had the courage to admit that they were still fluent in the language.
Suhani's voice from outside the room brought them back to reality. Nachiket spoke first, "Umm.. Tumhara naam hi likh deta hu"
He picked up the pen and wrote 'Ragini Khanna'

(please continue)

She smiled a big earnest smile at him when he finished writing it and underlined it with his usual purposeful flourish. She loved how he wrote the R in her name - regal, aristocratic stroke towering over the other alphabets but still so intimate - like the small curve to the left where the loop ended (something she maintained only she could spot and believed he did only when he wrote her name). Her mind instantly wandered to the rough scribbles Nachiket would leave in his gifts and how she'd tease him for a doctor's handwriting and pull his cheeks, pretending not to understand what he had written.. but smelling the paper to get a heady whiff of his cologne later.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the marker against the plaster. He pointed an arrow between the two words that made up her name and wrote 'Patel' above it. She frowned and it and he winked, before laughing at his own doing.. well, he knew she would always find him funny.

"Agar Patel likhna hi tha to Khanna kyu likha? Jagah nahi h dono ki." She complained, without looking at him.
He wanted to read between the lines. Should he?
"To ab kya karu? Khanna kaatu ya Patel?" She knew what he was asking. He always did this to her. Put her on the spot.
"It's going to be your decision," she looked at him now. "But for now, I have to make the breakfast. You have time to think, and take a decision."
This time, he did read between the lines.
