Ragini stood there, flabbergasted. He hadn't grabbed her pallu?! She let out the breath she had been holding in, the warm hope that he had sent running through her veins replaced by the weight of the cold awkwardness settling in between them.
How could she think that he would grab her pallu? Years ago, it was a different story--she had given him that right, to touch her, to hold her, to love her. But now--well, he still had that right. She had given it to him this morning, when they had officially tied the knot, again. And, in a way, he had accepted it in proving that he too didn't have any issues with their proximity. The way he had blown in her eye, in front of everyone; she smiled remembering the incident and felt her cheeks go red at the thought of his touch on her face.
And as if that wasn't enough, he had blown the sindoor off of her nose after marking her as his own. His warm breath created a trail of goosebumps down her arms, making it near impossible for her to concentrate on the wedding anymore. She was very lucky for her ghunghat that covered her down to her wrists; otherwise it would have been very clear to the others why she was taking her time looking at him after he had so sweetly blown away the sindoor. Not that her blush was doing her any favors in that front.
But why did she think he would grab her pallu? They may be legally married now, but her mind knew that he wasn't mentally married to her yet. Her heart cried at the thought; after all this time, they were finally man and wife again, but she still didn't have the rights of a wife. Ragini realized that that was everything she had pined for in all these years; the right to stand by his side, the right to touch him, the right to love him.
Suddenly she felt the cloth of her sari coming closer to her, wrapping around her back and waist and shielding her from the cold wind blowing in through the window. She felt his fingers dance across her waist, sending a shiver down her spine, as he tucked the end of the pallu into the waistband of her lehenga. His long, slender fingers remained there, caught between her slim waist and the heavy skirt, as she closed her eyes in pleasure. Ragini's back arched and her head tipped back as his warm breath tickled her back, making the hair on her exposed skin stand up. He had grabbed the dori of her blouse and was tugging on it softly. She felt giddy as she felt the knot come undone and her head hit his hard body, her chest heaving.
Nachiket released the doris and leaned forward instinctively, kissing a light trail from her back to her neck. He turned his head slightly and his lips made their way to her earlobe. He grabbed her ear with his teeth and tugged, making her let out a barely audible moan. Oh, how he had longed to hear that sound all these years! As his tongue danced around her ear, he felt her slowly lift her head off of his chest.
Ragini turned to face her husband slowly, Nachiket's fingers still on her waist. His hand was now completely on her bare skin, his arm covering the small of her back. She looked up at him and he immediately felt guilty. What was he doing? What had he done? What would she think of him?
Then he looked into her eyes and saw the same look he found on this very night twenty years ago. That same raw passion, that same lust, and that same longing love. The same look that he was sure he held in his own eyes. His defenses fell down as he leaned forward, using his arm to bring her towards him and taking her lips in his own.
Ragini couldn't believe what was happening--a part of her mind yelled for her to stop, to cut it off before it got too far. But she couldn't stop; no matter how wrong it seemed, she knew this was right. And to hell with it if it wasn't. Her instincts took over and she stood up on her tiptoes and snaked one arm around his neck and kissed him back, passionately. She couldn't resist grabbing his hair and pushing his head down, deepening their long pending kiss.
They both lost their souls that night. And they only found themselves again in the morning, wrapped peacefully in the other's arms.
