When one talks about the fact that one has to be true to self we are only thinking about one aspect 'me. Once you are born on this world and have a family, 'me loses its meaning . One is surrounded with parents siblings not to mention other relations. When one is living with the family whatever decision is taken for 'me' affects the family. It is selfish to think only of oneself always without giving a thought to those around you who may be affected. That being said being totally selfless is also incorrect.
Shashi's one decision of marrying Garima with it without love set a long list of events in motion. Him having La with Far or giving his name to Gar, then going/going back to Rashi, leaving Rashi for getting love from Gar and so on really disturbed the entire family. Khushi, La, Arnav and Kabir too had to bear the brunt.
One has to sometimes think what will be the outcome of one's choices on others dependent on them. If you fall out of love with someone then it wasn't Love in the first place. Parent's decisions haunt the children because they cannot be asked to choose. You fell out if love but the child still loves and needs both of you.
I may be talking about things that may not be agreed upon by all but N's stories give us insight into so many realities that plague us that it isn't possible to comment as an outsider. Our comments are always prejudicial in favour of one or more characters here.
