Indi,
Apart from other things, I strongly agree with this:
"had they chosen this route, then deeply thought about how asr would talk about it, it might ave worked. and i might have seen to watch barun do asr the way only he can. but this is pedestrian writing, with no real creative aim... just an economic one: they are repackaging ipk to earn money during a not too popular time slot... that's fine, just that there isn't the talent in it i've come to associate with ipk.
Yes, it is a lazy writing. It was better than "Ek Jashn is what I felt, and that is why I was watching his narration.
Of all the Hotstar seasons of the first series of IPKKND, I never dare to go to the Season 12. I just can't do that for my love of IPKKND!
For this rewind, it was Barun who pulled me. Yet, like I said earlier, I still can't take this mushy, poetry ASR even with Barun's charm! While watching too, I was constantly shouting at ASR to get serious, what the hell are you saying! 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
But if they are not gonna get serious with writing and not gonna respect how the way the fans love this epic love story, then I don't think I would continue watching it even for Barun!
I always wonder, they have such a beautiful audience who genuinely love the show more than anything else, and yet they don't respect the fans' love and come up with these half-hearted attempts. star plus only cares about money. they make that out of the "kitchen audience" or whatever they call it, based in india. this was a show pitched for star one (now it's not there any more), a young channel... a romance. someone thought they should try it on the main entertainment channel, so they did. it succeeded... madly. in september 2011, four months after starting, ipk breached the high trp numbers of colors' balika badhu, the moneymaker of the time. elation. jubilation... but also i think along with that came "extra special" attention from channel execs. do this do that, scan trp constantly... the golden goose syndrome i think kicked in. too much love. alongside, gul was beginning to lose interest, new show qubool hai on the cards, with her favourite karan singh grover. barun had signed up only till feb 2012, they asked him to extend as at last they were making money. he did, but he also wanted to do other things, who wouldn't. had the writing remained intelligent and fun as it was in the beginning (despite several serial type uh huhs), i think things would have been ok... but a combination of factors just wrecked everything.
and no, star plus never gave a damn about the audience it had...
the overseas audience didn't make money, so we didn't matter. the young girls in india got some attention, so we got an overload of just asr kkg rabba veys with no real context, poor akash and payal were super ignored... and on the other hand, trying to rope in older indian viewers, the "typical" serial watcher, they came up with atrocious ideas like bubli, dadi, masala mama, sheetal... it was harrowing. no story, weird encounters, barun looking more and more tired and badly groomed, kkg now moping now caricature now achhi bahu... yet we hung on. no, clung on. taking a step forward even as ipk regressed backward. because we had reached "jee nahin paaoonga" love for a show. and when you're so in love, you're also pretty vulnerable.. so channel did, what channels do... kicked us around. then kicked barun... he was the most expendable after us. also, i think they hated the fact that they had to set up banks of operators to tackle fans clamouring for barun as asr, rejecting their new asr, insisting show end if barun can't continue.. and no no no killing of asr (was one of their plans, how sweet)... i was one of those insane callers to star plus 😃... so yeah, how dare barun be so popular... a fairly new, not well connected, young actor... star plus "showed" him... oh that ticker tape blaming one actor for the end of a show. and they showed us fans too, after all they are the mightiest channel in india (at that time they were the biggest, now i have no idea).
I also wonder whether Barun, Sanaya, and the rest of the cast and crew ever loved the show like us fans did! though they always tried to act cool, a bit nonchalant, i think they did. ipk was a huge part of their lives, they also knew how immensely popular the show was, and many of them were quite shattered when it ended... utkarsha naik said something too. barun's interview on his final day on the shoot... heartbreaking. sanaya used to get angry... very emotional. it was a hard time for all the actors, crew, viewers. channel and gul really were thinking of how to salvage the situation, not lose too much, and where to make more money from, nothing else. my take... and oh, i am opinionated 😆.
Sure, the cast got their friends for life from this show, yet them not recognising and respecting constantly how the show is loved all over the world is what I still can't fathom!
P.S.: I'm much younger than you, so yeah different perceptions! 😆 But I seriously respect your thoughts a lot. Like I said earlier, your takes and thoughts are the most balanced, non-judgemental and are closer to my own thoughts. It was your thoughts that made me love the show even more than what I did and made me write these ramblings. thank you so much, i appreciate your saying that. i often wonder if my endless rambles have any value. 😳
On a side note, are you still a fan of Barun's work? Can we talk about Barun on this thread?
