Chapter 30 (last)
"Take the blessings of your elder" The priest smiled, concluding the wedding. He looked on at the happy faces of the bride and groom, wishing them a long and happy married life.
Arnav helped Khushi up, her heavy lengha and dupatta making it slightly difficult for her to stand after sitting on the mandap for so long. She looked at him gratefully. They took the blessings, smiling away as everyone cheered, clapped and continued to throw flowers on them.
Soon, the crowd started to disperse and they moved onto the buffet, a generous spread of feast that included Arnav and Khushi's favorite cuisine. The duo sat away from the rest, having their own special table and finally some privacy.
Arnav led her to the table and told her to sit there while he went to get the food for them.
"Arrey Arnavji, I'm not invalid. I'll come with you" Khushi protested. He just looked at her sternly before winking.
"Save your energy for tonight, Mrs Arnav Singh Raizada" he advised and chuckled as she went "Haww"
He came back soon after and started feeding her. "I'm not a kid Arnavji" She smiled at him cheekily.
"Oh, I know that. You're no kid. You're a woman." Arnav stared at her with so much heat she wanted to jump into the pool nearby. She leaned forward as he indicated for her to do so.
"My woman" He whispered and she swore her heart skipped a beat. If he was making her feel so warm.. and mush right now, what would happen later on..? She gulped and stuffed a spoon into his mouth, making him laugh at her cute expression of nervousness.
"Khee khee kya has rahe ho aap?" She pouted at him.
"I recall you telling me once that I look better when I smile." He commented.
"Better? As if he needs to look better. If he looks any better, I will have to wear a blind fold so that I don't see him and faint." Khushi muttered to herself, not realizing he'd heard her. He managed to keep a straight face until he let loose a guffaw. She glared at him, pursing her lips.
Surprisingly, she didn't cry much during the Bidaai. After all, what was the need? She was happy to marry her love. And she could visit her parents whenever she wanted. She shook her head. All those hindi serials with the long, torturous scenes of the bride crying.. so dramatic! Is she a river that she can cry so much?
Arnav took hold of her hand and brought her to the car. Waving from the window seat, she looked on until they appeared like tiny figures. She moved to lean her head against his shoulder, clasping his hand in hers. Finally alone, she smiled to herself.
"Arnavji, where are you taking me? At least tell me now?" She pleaded. He shook his head. She pinched him. He glared at her.
"We will reach soon, Khushi" He told her. She laid her head back and enjoyed the silence. Soon, the car pulled up at the beautiful garden with pretty building behind it.
"Farmhouse?" Khushi looked at him. He smiled warmly at her.
Dismissing the driver, Arnav took a small bag containing one set of clothes for each of them to change into for tomorrow once they left here. After that, they would go back home, to Raizada house where Nani could do Khushi's griha pravesh. And the next day, they would fly out to an unknown destination for their three week honeymoon.
She tugged on his hand, looking fascinated with the array of flowers surrounding the garden. "Arnavji! They're so beautiful!" She said excitedly. He brought her to a bench and sat her down. He remained standing and after a while bowed his head.
"So gaye kya?" She asked herself. She stood up and cupped his cheek. "Arnavji" She called out.
He looked at her, his eyes filled with emotions to the brim that she felt her breath catch. "Kya hua?" She asked urgently, concern lacing her voice.
"This is my mumma's garden, Khushi. I thought we should stop by here to get her blessings. I know she would've loved you." Arnav said softly, lifting his hand to caress her smooth cheek. Khushi's eyes filled. She hugged him tight, knowing how emotional and vulnerable he got when he talked about his mother.
"See that star, Arnavji?" She pointed to one that shone brightly, flickering every now and then. Arnav nodded.
"She's happy. Our parents are happy" She whispered. He tugged on her hand and showed her around, the numerous types of flowers making her head spin. She stopped by a bush, looking intently at it. It had calla lilies on them. They were beautiful. He plucked one and gave it to her.
"Arnavji, it's so pretty." She traced the petal. He took it from her and slid it behind her ear.
"It sure is" He looked into her eyes. He lifted her up in his arms, loving the feel of having her soft body against his. She wrapped her arms around his neck, holding onto him. She nuzzled her face against his neck. She could stay here forever.
He walked to the house and told her to get the key from his pocket. She got it and unlocked the door. He kicked the door open and carried his bundle of joy and love into the house. He set her down in the middle of it and went to shut the door.
It was just the two of them. Alone, no other houses in the distance. Khushi ignored the pounding in her chest and looked around. The farmhouse was pretty, the woody furniture giving it a nice garden feeling to it.
"Tour?" He asked, leading her around the house. The last stop was the bedroom. It was spacious, with a big bed in the middle that was decorated with strings of flowers around it and petals on the bed. She looked at him questioningly.
"I came earlier to decorate it" He smiled sheepishly.
"It's beautiful" She looked at it, the pounding of her heart returning. She was startled when he removed the heavy dupatta off her head.
"Lots of women must have helped you into your outfit. Now you've got only me. Shall I?" He stood behind her, his breathing falling onto her neck. She nodded. He moved them to stand in front of the full length mirror, putting the dupatta on the nearby chair.
She stayed silent as he removed her necklaces except for the mangalsutra. He took care to free her lobes where the big jhumkas were. His hands moved down to unhook the chain waist, purposely roaming his hands around her bare skin.
He looked into the mirror to see her watching him. She blushed. When his hands moved to remove her bangles, she stared at her ring. It was so beautiful. How did she get so lucky?
She jumped a little when his fingers started to untie the strings that held her blouse together. When it was down to the last string, she turned around and hugged him tightly. He moved his hands over her almost bare back, the blouse falling apart with only the bottom strings tied together.
Remembering their conversation last night, Khushi decided to tease him. She moved back from the hug and kissed his cheek.
"Your prediction was right, Arnavji. I am tired. Goodnight!" She sauntered to the bed, smiling away. But he jumped on her, and the next thing she knew, she was flipped onto her back on the bed with Arnavji looming above her. He stared at her, passion filling his eyes.
"You're about to get more tired" He whispered huskily. Khushi lowered her eyes, her chest heaving against his. He traced her face with his finger and she looked up at him before her eyes caught sight of something.
"Your husband is trying to love you, and you're lost in your thoughts?" He groaned. She looked at him, smiling. When her eyes had the slightest sheen of tears, he panicked.
"What's wrong? Are you okay? Are you not ready? It's okay, we can wait. I will wait. Let's go to sleep" He hurriedly tried to make her feel better. His rambling got over when she pulled him down to her by his neck and kissed him soundly.
"Thank you, Arnavji" She said weakly. He frowned at her. "What for?" He asked, not understanding.
She looked back up above him. "For the stars" She whispered, looking at the display of fairy lights and stars that hung above the bed. Understanding dawned and he buried his head in her neck.
"Anything for you, Khushi" He promised. He moved back to gaze at her face. He decided to lighten the mood and push away her nervousness.
He kissed her forehead and moved off of her, rolling to her side. "Okay, goodnight." He put a hand over his face and slept. She gaped at him. Within a second, she jumped on him and tugged his hand away.
"Arnavji, what are you doing?" She asked him sharply.
"Me? I'm just doing what my wife wanted. You wanted to sleep right? So let's sleep" He told her. She looked at him incredulously.
"But.. but.. Arnavji!" She protested. It was their suhaag raat, and he was going to sleep? She looked at the clock. It was only 11pm!
She poked his chest. "Arnavji, I was just joking.." she was interrupted as she was flipped on her back.
"Accha? Joking? Let's see if you find this funny" He said with a devilish glint in his eyes as he pulled at her clothes and kissed the life out of her.
