How I love these discussions that we have! About something that is not really rooted in reality, but in some way helps us to touch a certain reality also, would you say?
I loved what you wrote about them being changed after that first encounter. And yes, khushi did read him and some where sub consciously knew that he was not as bad as he portrayed himself to be. Even though on the surface she called him all sorts of unsavory names. With him, there is some deep rooted idea that makes him take a negative view, but some where inside even he knows, that's not what she is and hence dangerous to him? And when watching the early episodes it is interesting to see that delineation when she actually makes a place in his head (after the first rabbave would you say, a first meeting in a sense). Before that he has this sort of amused look when he's around her or otherwise and later when she stakes her claim in his head, then he sort of goes broody?(not in the feminine sense of that word!😆). You sort of see that even with his family, with Anjali. And he's so not into La! But he does tell her that in the office she's not his girlfriend, would've been interesting to see him with her outside, in a more casual setting. On second thoughts, don't think I could've watched him being even a wee bit flirty with her!

i would absolutely say. 😃 a silly story on tv yet it was written with ken and a certain fluid sussing of life of love which i don't think the writer thought about much, just let the story come from the right place. that got lost when the trp and money chase became too much. but things they touched upon, especially the nature of love... valuable... very valuable i feel.

I loved what you wrote about them being changed after that first encounter. And yes, khushi did read him and some where sub consciously knew that he was not as bad as he portrayed himself to be. you felt that too? yay. Even though on the surface she called him all sorts of unsavory names. With him, there is some deep rooted idea that makes him take a negative view, but some where inside even he knows, that's not what she is and hence dangerous to him? And when watching the early episodes it is interesting to see that delineation when she actually makes a place in his head (after the first rabbave would you say, a first meeting in a sense). ah... lovely kizh... ufff, yes, again a first meeting and this time his gut capitulated even before his head could say shut down, abort abort abort... and she struck him in the gut and shot into his head... registered... dangerous ladki.

Before that he has this sort of amused look when he's around her or otherwise and later when she stakes her claim in his head, then he sort of goes broody? broody asr aaargh. (not in the feminine sense of that word!😆). You sort of see that even with his family, with Anjali. And he's so not into La! But he does tell her that in the office she's not his girlfriend, would've been interesting to see him with her outside, in a more casual setting. On second thoughts, don't think I could've watched him being even a wee bit flirty with her! er, did ya see that sliiigt smile he gave when she walked up to him the first time... indulgent... in control but enjoying the girl in his won way... you are one of those very few people allowed to waste ten minutes of my time... i was like what the... yet i watched. and h he was pretty brutal with her at work... no, not his gf there at all... an employee... of a khadoos demanding boss.

kizh... that first meeting thought 👏 beauty.

and the reading of the gradual penetration by miss jalebi into his fortress. love it. ⭐️

this story makes you want to think, ponder, infer deeper significances... in that it is a classic i feel.
and it cuts across, no matter what age or nationality... even gender, i'd say, if a man has the patience to sit through an episode or two. my husband has thanks to me seen a couple of episodes and he is clearly touched... not immune nor laughing it off as a silly soap.

the other day he said to me, they seem to have something else on called ipkknd, i made a face, he said, it's terrible... beyond belief. what is it. and why must it be called ipkknd.

haha.

i feel thsi story lets you read it from where you are, interpret your own way, underlying message being i think... love is crucial and it triumphs.

in our world of constantly polished and perfected ideas of love, this raw exploration, fascinating and valuable.
and despite everything there is an innocence in it... in him too. that last bit... that is barun sobti... taking asr to another level, making him real, giving us a clear view of his heart and mind.

Indi di,
Its so true how we all approach it in different ways, see different things and even draw parallels with our own lives at times.
My father lost his father when he was just 5-6 yrs old (six siblings, the eldest a girl 17 at the time, the eldest son 15, my dad's eldest brother, the youngest was just 1-11/2 yrs old. My grandma was 36-37 yrs old I think, and my grandfather himself was only 48-49 yrs old when he passed away). My uncle, my dad's eldest brother is or was an atheist ( now in his old age he seems to have softened, does not mind visiting temples and doing religious stuff!) and my dad tells me that once in a conversation about belief my uncle apparently asked 'what wrong did we do (young that they were) that we lost our father so early" ? My grandma was an extremely pious woman, much into pooja and astrology and what not. So he apparently asked the question if that helped? So I can see why events in one's life can have an impact on one's belief system and it does not make one bad if one chooses not to believe. I think that's why that aspect of ASR's did not jar for many of us, in fact you sort of admired his convincing unrepentant stand.
Now on my nth watch, I sort of noticed that difference in him, how he sort of draws into himself more after she makes a place in his head. Does not want to invite questions? Let's ponder on😆

real life, kizh... always so challenging... moulding and making us.

i feel for your dad's family... and really i saw glimpses from my life and those i love here in ipk.

he does draw away after rabba ve, you are right. it bothers the heck out of him. he gets nastier... then after the incident in the rain... that sudden stopping in the middle of the road... why... why am i doing this. there's so much there and the rain wraps, falls, enters, echoes, thunderclaps tell stories... a welt in him is almost palpable... he is like a soldier prepared for battle... he cannot feel bad... he cannot be wrong... he will not feel bad... not about her. he is correct... arnav singh raizada ko kissi ladki se koi faraq nahin padta. that clincher.

he has been saying this to him for so long. koi faraq nahin padta.

everything that hurts him. bothers him. gets anywhere near his heart, his emotions. koi faraq nahin padta.

a sensitive man making himself insensitive. yet, can he? the ponder in the middle oif the road in the rain comes. because he is who he is. look at the flashbacks. at every point he is breaking, ripping and she is entering him. till the last one when she turns in her red saree and something in him tears, rends. after that... he must rush out in the rain and save her. the same him who had torn her dori, dropped her from his office let her fall, yanked her dupatta and torn it... he can't do that any more... after that turn... those tears in her eyes... oh he must send her away,... he must save her... why do i feel for the first time in my life i am wrong.

the music starts with his rage, enters his mind, his rumination, his pain, was their a flinch, the slightest one as he closed his eyes his head resting on the car? and then the soldier draws on all his strength, the music returns and he says... i will prevail, i will conquer... koi faraq nahin padta.

fabulous visual creation of this moment and sound too... so elemental... the almost darker than any thundercloud, his emotions more drenching more soaking than the rain. the claps of thunder like his mind being pulled mercilessly, whipped... he must scale it all and be himself. stay afloat... otherwise the night might take him. i love this scene... asr is here. dil dimag everything. a man you can't just call a serial hero.

some shots. i took 30. poetry.

he remembers running out and saving her... he had to...

and the car screeches to a halt.

the slow slow dissolves, the unhurried yet roiled space.

he steps out into the rain. something almost classical tragedy here. the elements are as though chasing him, making him feel think recant repent... but he will not relent... arnav singh raizada... character is destiny i have often thought looking at him.

and his thoughts come.

he slams the door. force. denial. anger.

he struggles... the rain takes him to places unknown.

sirf ussi ka chehra... he sounds harrased, his voice rising, losing its remoteness... that main sahi hoon, so inward, and now at ussi ka chehra a feeling seeping in... only her face. yes, that rabba vey, that red... he is haunted by it. he cannot be. he must not be.

the voice struggles to regain control. he will not be affected. a keening sound to the music. this man has punished himself so hard for a tragedy that he is not to blame for, yet he seems to have a guilt sense attached to it... and that insane anger expresses so much. he cannot feel bad... he must be correct. i feel for this young man. what a sentence he has given himself, for there's no one he can punish for what happened... nor seek reparation or solace from. he has only himself.

a delicate slow motion and dissolve...

a sense of raw pain coursing through him. he seems to flinch as if smote. crash of thunder.

he returns... so does his music.

ufff. koi shaq?

kizh... yes yes yes that rabba vey was such a first meeting for his dard and dimag... thank you for taking me on this ride. i am plunged in and wondering at the beauty of it all.

Uff, your edits! I'm in a sort of a trance looking at them, and I've to pretend I'm hard at work too! 😆. I don't know how many times I've read your takes (Ipoona's also, she has a way with words too and her way of looking at things is fantastic), whenever I watch these early episodes, I go ahead and read the takes too. So much in them, those early ones. And the actors, just too good these two, in getting their characters. You know, khushi could've come across as too cutesie (I normally get annoyed at such characters), but instead that weirdness, sanka, just across so well and became her. Clear, wide eyed, innocence shining through, a purity the actress managed to bring through so well. And the man, hello, hi, hi, ... You could spend hours trying to read those eyes!😆
After the first rabbave what comes to her mind is also how he holds her protectively in the rain. She has to sort of work to bring up the bad memories later on. Interesting that. But that throwing her down was something I couldn't get, that was cruel, deliberate. That dori thing was more a reaction, not this.

the rabba vey hit him hard... the rain and his coming out of nowhere to save her, i think that settled way inside her. how people start making a place inside someone...

i never understood that dropping her from a higher floor. have always said it was not right and i don't get it. yet it seems to say something about his character... a part of him that just needs to win, to goad, to be the one submitted to... and over time, in the flashbacks especially, it's become signature... no idea why. there's a trace of cruelty there and i suppose the memory that she is not daunted by it does something.

i hate cutesie girls and jhalli often gets done that way... sanaya was absolutely brilliant with her sanka, her freshness and that untouched innocence... she also had her temper and her stubbornness and the deal making attitude. of course her understanding of comedy and keeping it fey and khushi like was impeccable, unbelievably good. and she'd texture funny with sad or sincere or helpless or something and the whole thing would leave one breathless, especially because the effect on the man was evident.

yes, ipoona has a powerful flair for analysis and nice language... i have read some of her stuff and she is deep, detailed.

have you ever read nandalala? i used to like her language and point of view.

You know what? You make me fall deeper and deeper for this show when I am convinced I couldn't get any crazier about it. And there, bang, I read your take and it starts all over again. The brink of insanity tipped over again.
I haven't read a more beautiful, vivid analysis of episode 2. A benchmark of excellence in IPK world.

And then your words... that metaphor of chiaroscuro, I am officially sold. No matter how many times I have watched that act of a dori snapped, this one gave me the chills.

I just happened to bump on this thread... Next moment I knew I was hooked... Indi, isn't it the name of the thread maker... You've done a splendid job with the second episode. I re-lived it, quite literally 😳 Mind-Blowing just mind blowing... Hats off and a round of applause 👏👏👏

Indeed one of the unforgettable episode ever and one of the unique scenes in television history. Best choreographed and the two people doing it has just brought it out flawlessly. 'perfection' is one word that describes throughout 😃
