@Japonica, of all people you are saying you don't know how to comment 😲 You write thoughtfull comments dear, not saying I stalk you 😆 but have seen couple of your comments on Rockbarbie's Gravity, Delilah's OS and they were as good as the story itself..!! (on a side note I had to admit I have yet to comment on Gravity, I only liked it, this is because the story is so emotionally draining on you, I'm unable to express myself which is a testament to RB's writing skills 👏).

In my experience, IF has been a mixed bag!! I was hesitant to comment initially but now I just write what I feel about the story and it is not forced. And most authors reciprocate by liking the comments, scrapping/commenting back to me. In fact I have writers telling me not to worry about commenting and just a Like is enough..!!

I also have experienced a Writer having Gala time with their friends! I don't mind she can do whatever she wants but what I do mind is not reciprocating my comments. A simple like tells me that she has read my comment Then the same writer puts up a Note saying if she moves her works to blogs, she will only give access to people who comment Now should I laugh or cry at this 😕

@Shruti, I hope you don't mind if mention the names of Writers that I have an absolutely, positive experience: In alphabetical order..

Why will a reader comment on your story when you don't bother to reply them??(that hurts the most ..giving long comments..! and giving short comments too i some times had faced the situation that they dont even press like button dear..though there are people who appreciate comments..who reply even in their hetic scheduled)

Why will a reader comment on your story when you take ages to update a chapter?? Yeah real life is more important then even a reader also have a life beyond IF.. You have one story to write they have 100 stories to comment..(And important thing they can took weeks to update but if we are late in commenting eve after informing them that we are having exams and we cant comment ..still they will not consider you as reader..i am totally agrree to this point..!).

Discontinue one story because writer has lost the "inspiration'' to write the story or simply put, writer had not planned the story beforehand. Readers may not comment on that writer's next story for this reason alone. Don't know when they will drop a seal saying 'discontinued'' or 'removed''.( I had myself turned into silent reader bcz of this. start 10 stories and at the end discontinue either two or either says i can update once bcz i ont have time..ad if we dont have life outside yar..!we are free...why start a story when you know you cant update..!)

* I am sorry if any writer mind my words but i am not saying to all..!Their are many writers who are great but yup their are few writers ..to whom i wish i could straightly say(i had done this mistake once i am not doing it again..)🤢

I am not a silent reader..but I felt bad when I saw good story doesn't get its proper appreciation from a reader.Some times a bit negligence from a reader may hamper author's interest.At least a reader can hit a like button to appreciate any work.I prefer to do that if have shortage of time.
But some times I felt very bad when authors asked harshly for comments.They can't force anyone to comment.

That's actually a very good and valid point you make. Here I will play the devil's advocate and talk about one particular response which I seen reader's give to an update thatis particularly brillaint and very moving, dealing with something very profound and deep, something that affects us all as human beings- and that is the word 'nyc'!!!!! One would have to be a door or a wall, not to respond to the depth of the emotional experience of the update and all they can come up with is the word 'nyc'? - what is 'nyc'? is that all they can feel? when the rest of the readers have been completely shaken by by the update!

I know I digress from the main topic of this post, but I have to say this word gets my blood boiling. Can the reader not at least say that the updated 'moved them', or it was a 'brilliant update' nothing more, just a proper phrase??!!?? That is not very difficult to say, is it?

'nyc'...not also 'NICE'...what does this word mean!...i feel its better not to comment rather than commenting a 'NYC'. i think this 'nyc' also makes the writer confuse!😆

sometimes i feel sooo moved/emotional by an update, i just dont know what to comment!...most of the time i scrap that writer personally n thank her for such an amazing update n thise writers r genorious enough to understand my overwhelming condition😳
