Makers of upcoming film recreate an '80s hit disco song featuring Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh
Cashing in on an old hit song isn't a new trend in Bollywood. Usually, makers retain the hook line of the hit original and rewrite the rest. But for her film Main Aur Mr Riight, producer Pooja Gujral chose to keep everything about the popular song, Yaar bina chain kaha re', intact. The song was picturised on Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh and was part of the 1985 film, Saaheb.
Besides recreating the exact tune, Pooja has also used similar costumes and even shot it where the original was filmed " at Ballard Pier in Mumbai.
Says Pooja, "We kept this song as it fits into the story and suits our characters too."
Just like the orginal, the rearranged version will also feature veteran singer-composer Bappi Lahiri. "However, since S Janki, who sang the original, wasn't available, we chose Hema Sardesai for the duet," says Pooja, who bought the rights to the original song from the film's music label.
The romantic comedy, directed by Adeeb Rais, marks the film debut of popular television actor Barun Sobti. It also stars Shenaz Treasurywala. Talking about the experience of shooting for the song, Barun says, "I'm a pathetic dancer but I found solace in the fact that I was told the steps were supposed to look funny."
