good one, durga. yes, thread is going through a drought of sorts, but i am sure the monsoons will arrive soon. about those piictures from dilli... alas, on the day assigned for shopping at cp and hanging out, my dear sweet uncle had a heart attack... yeah, the 5 days were really packed and dramatic. the poor man sweetly said he was sorry he's spoiled our shopping spree. this after an emergency angiography and stent implant (or whatever they call it). he's still in hospital, absolutely certain nothing had happened, just a pressure drop... these docs... etc., etc.
but i do have some pictures that might be of interest. the first few were taken at birla house, now called gandhi smriti, where gandhiji breathed his last. i used to go there as a kid as i mentioned earlier and standing there with my kid was kind of ufff. the place is still calm, deep, green and rich with the feelings of an independence movement and aman, right or wrong, good or bad, stood for something and was willing to go it alone if need be.the lawn where he had a prayer meeting every evening. the little covered area with four pillars is where it happened.a long pavilion with his sayings and the story of his life.unbelievably little material possessions, among them his precious spinning wheel. i am a huge fan of khadi... consider it totally cool, have worn khadi kurtas almost all my life... just the last 10 years access is tough. but really, it's the ultimate. was mad at everybody for making asr wear embroidered white kurta made of nondescript material. a long white khadi kurta with high/guru collar, crisp and slightly transparent, moving gracefully along with him... that is what asr would wear or so i have decided 😆. as you can see i am never too far from ipk and a certain boy.his last meeting, 4pm to 5pm, 30 jan 1948. he spoke with sardar patel, a man i wish i'd met. and then it was time to pray... time to go.okay, someone said something about indi wearing yellow/green saree and meeting asr in dilli. a picture dedicated to that: the dilli auto... phat phatiya. in dilli angreji: backside view.remember the ipk three wheeler dudes? well these guys were a tad more adventurous. in case you didn't notice, zooming to what i saw and had to take the pic for... the driver of the auto behind has his left foot in hawaii chapps stuck to the rear of the three wheeler in front. what the... i kept on trying to gauge what was up, a fight? a conversation? a dare? what? no idea, this went on through almost 20 minutes of slow moving traffic, and messy delhi roads. this is the newer part of dilli ji i did not grow up in or know. trans jamuna, places like mayur vihar, ramprastha, etc. looks nothing like lutyens's new delhi. busy, not too pretty, lawless, high energy, slightly chaotic at all times. no green sprawling lawns with paved pathways here i'm sure.footprints. from 1948 and 2013. my old new delhi and the new national capital region. wonder what shah jehan or tughlak or arjun or gandhi ji might say if they came by for a delhi trip today.
