OS | Their dance
Khushi paced the room, her eyebrows knotted up in tension.Arnav, occupying his favourite seat in front of the laptop ,looked up and inquired
"Something wrong Khushi?"
"Salsa...Ballet..."She muttered to herself, lost in her own world of confusion.
"Jalebis!"he said and she immediately jerked up "When?!Where?"Arnav smiled to himself, this trick worked every single time when he wanted to divert her attention."uh.Nowhere,I will get some for you tomorrow.I was just trying to ask you what was wrong."
She made a face and turned away, back to her muttering.Arnav sighed and got up,walking over to her side.He held her from behind, his chin resting on her shoulder.
"Mrs Raizada,what is wrong?"
"Arnavji what is Jazz?"she abruptly questioned.
"Jazz?Well,Jazz is a form of western dance.Why?"
"Oh no nothing.I was just..."she trailed away, her expression mirroring that of disappointment.Arnav felt the tension and turned her around, his face now facing her downcast one.
"You wanted to know that because the women at my office were talking about taking dance lessons right?"
She looked up,surprised at the way he had nailed the truth. His eyes bore through hers, understanding and calm.Khushi's thoughtful expression had not escaped his when she had come to meet him this afternoon at the office. He had overheard the discussion somehow and it was just now that he put two and two together.
"Khushi you don't need to be self-conscious ever. They learn Jazz doesnt mean you have to learn it too.You have to be comfortable in what you do,what you like. You know your own style of Khushi-dance can blow govinda away!"he quipped with a straight face. She looked at him, confused and then laughed out loud.He looked at her tenderly, satisfied at having succeeded in making her laugh.
"But Jazz is a beautiful form of dance,no?"
"Yeah"he truthfully replied "It's beautiful. But so are you..."
She blushed, her hands going up his arms until they rested on his chest. He held her ,one arm by the waist and with the other ,twirled her around. They moved around the room, twirling around to an invisible tune. They did stumble once or twice as they ball-danced ,but what mattered was that they managed to almost match their steps.Without music, without beats, without practised steps.
It was their dance.
"Ouch!!"
I did say,almost!
