Maya I am a dreamer
I accept everything you say
down to the last full stop
Nothing is different but Arnav and Khushi
Nothing works but for their love
Nothing is untypical except the passion they share
Nothing is worthwhile except the beauty of Khushi's soul
Nothing is working except ASR's persona
and like a child that never gives up hope, here I am still in love with these tow and their love
and i get why you are disappointed
so am I
but someday...perhaps...things will change?
In hope lies everything...so I just ask you to hold on to a ray, if not the beam

Hello Maverick,
Fancy seeing you on my post! It really is my swan song because by nature I am not a movie buff I just know what I like and what I don't. Generally I do not watch television because I never had the time. Demanding job, children and volunteer work made for a full day. Due to medical reasons this year I had to slow down and my sister referred me to this show. The sheer difference in cultures got me drawn to the show because it helped me to understand a lot about the battered women I worked with. The majority were East Indians!
The other reason I watched the show was that chemistry between Barun and Sanaya. It remained me of the movies I enjoyed in my movie going years. Casablanca, Gone with the Wind etc. Barun as Arnav, reminds me of those characters. So I relate to him in that regard. Maybe bias? Don't know I just know what I like.
Sanaya's Khushi is not someone I can relate to but I do recognize her talent but lets face it in my house my husband likes her and I like Barun! Go figure. So I accept what you see in her!😉

You may, may not know that I do not speak the language and I do not find that comedy translates very well! So I did not enjoy the comedic aspect of the show.

Glad that you have the experience with other Indian soaps to compare. I do not and because by nature I am a loner I also cannot relate to so many family members under one roof. I come from a large family but I am the last child so I got used to be my own space and the fact that once you got married you had your own home and that family became independent. So again the Raizadas and Guptas are out of my cultural scope. More so when you have characters like Mami. Sorry but I can never see her as part of an ideal family.

That said my questions and concerns are based on logic and the inequity I see in the show based on the treatment of women, men, more recently children and what I see as religious or traditional issue that feed that bias. This is not unique to India because in North America we have any diversity challenges of our own! So a bias is a bias!

For example that Radha, Krishna story that was told by Nani during that festival recognizing that Radha was his love but they were never married according to traition. Not a big deal for me but in the same breathe they called Khushi characterless for not having a traditional wedding! Logically that would mark Radha characterless! Blasphemy! But I am not the one who wrote that story. And, of greater importance I noted that the ones pointing fingers were women! Was ths the intention of the creatives?

I can find many more instances where by social issues where brought up intentionally or not and the ramifications were just glossed over. I have teenagers who PM me for help most recently after Shyam murdered his child and I felt so helpless. On one hand I was told that child abuse is rampant in India and people should get used to it and on the other hand I had children reaching across oceans for help. In light of this recent experience I have lost any residual interest I have in watching what I respectfully see as irresponsible television for I can never sit back and accept abuse of any kind as the norm! I would like to see Shyam charged for 1st degree murder of his child amongst the other crimes committed but alas who thought that anyone on the forum would pick on the fact that a fetus greater than 7 months is consider a child, a human being and entitled to all the rights! Having said that maybe this show was indeed designed for another audience and many of us just do not belong!

Regarding the woman on the show who had to prove she did not sleep with her friend ... I would love for them to examine her vagina to prove her innocence but I think the intention was for her to walk thru fire, like Sita! Isn't that the true test of purity!!!!!! And, I can bet it was a bunch of other women who were judge and jury!

I appreciate the response and I am sure we will meet up on Rima's posts or you never know next time I visit my adopted son in the Bay Area I will be in touch with you!

Cheers
Maya

First the answer to your last sentence -- absolutely! The next time you are in town please do let us know. All of us could probably go out and get some dinner and shoot the breeze! I am sure your adopted son has shown you the town. Just so you have this mind, my wife and I are expert Tour Guides!!! We have had a lot of family/friends visit and we take them around all the time.

Now for the show and my pull to it -- I finally understood that it was a combination of things. My stuff goes 20 hour work days to a break and it runs in 4 year cycles (time it takes to build a new tech company)! During this break while working on something new, I actually discovered this.

See I am not completely American since I wasnt born here. I yearn for our culture from India. I have been away from it and being in my "run around the world" mode, I am more looked at as American than Indian -- actually some of my friends automatically assumed that I was Christian because I never talk religion! So, this show had a bit of everything for me!

It was about such good people really! YEP on Khushi! But my wife LOVES Khushi as well and we discuss how we were becoming protective of this "on screen character". Funny stuff!

In any case coming back to the show and my addition, it was Khushi, Indian Culture and most importantly -- Lalit Mohan's effect on the scenes -- there is a POETIC Rhythm in what he shows us. The PAUSES are absolutely right, the speeding up is great, the showing down is special, the way the women look is amazing. See we are always a package it is not all LOOKS. It is the way we carry ourselves comport ourselves -- that is what Lalit is good at -- we like people when he shows them to us!

Yes if you dont speak the language, the comedy that was intertwined was very special.

In any case, I can write pages about this -- sometimes I wish I was done with my tech world and I could spend some time in MUMBAI on stuff like this -- it is COOL stuff!

Thanks again for a nice post -- like I was saying, my brain needs some work all the time!

Cheers.

awesome post

when i look at so many scenes and plots i can very well make out where i have seen them in past.

i have been TV manic and closely observing the medium since school days so i have become well versed fromt he shows in the 90's till the 2000 ers of ekta kapoor shows and the new journey of TV that 2008 brought from COLORS being launched,,,ihave witnessed all seasons

and thats why i fully agree there is nothing diffrent.

And i expect themakers not to experiment with the story line.

they have shown an ubsensible lover in asr in the name of being different. LOVE IS LOVE. From GOD to Humans all react to love in similar fashion. But our asr is so untouched what khushi has done for her.He blasts her often in the garb of defence that this is ASR character.

comeon a person who knows he is loved so much by the same person he loves and knowing what Khushi did for hIm, how can he skip repentance???

this story looks fit for the people of pluto , jupiter.
people on earth react to love in same fashion.
So their experiments in the nameof being diffrent must stop bcoz we know how different they are actually
