Why every show is a DIRECTOR's BABY ??

Why execution is everything ??

why do some shows succeed while others fail?

I suspect the answer is different from show to show. Many factors, and sometimes several in combination, will contribute to the demise of a once promising daily soap.

One thing I do know however, is the difference between the idea and the implementation ( execution ).

It is the implementation not the idea which is important. You may have the best idea but if you cannot reach your audience , you will fail. fail miserably.

Why every act or a show is director's baby ?
Here I go -

Directors are responsible for overseeing creative aspects of a show under the overall control of the Producer.

They often develop the vision for a show and carry out the vision, deciding how the show should look, in other words they make their vision come to life. ( Eg. The Legend Lalit Mohan of Old IPKKND.)

They are responsible for turning the script into a sequence of shots. They also direct what tone it should have and what an audience
should gain from the cinematic experience.( Eg -Old Rabba Ve's )

They are responsible for deciding camera angles, lens effects and lighting with the help of the cinematographer and set design with the
production designer. ( Eg -Diwali almost Kiss scene - Lalit Mohan - Camera Angle - Brillaint work )

They coordinate the actors' moves. ( ASR's expression when he came to know that Khushi is engaged. LM re shoot it 20 times. )

The director works closely with the cast and crew to shape the show. Some like to conduct rigorous rehearsals in preproduction while others
do so before each scene. ( ASR's expression after the Guest House scene, Khushi fainted and he was remembering her in his room while watching her blood mark on his hand - emotions showed for a minute but LM explained him the emotions for 20 mins.. that was just WOW )..!!

The director also plays a key role in post-production. He works with the editor to ensure that the emotions of the scene and the close ups, mid-shots and wide or long shots appropriately reflect which character is driving the narrative. ( ASR's first apology to Khushi )

The director also advises on the (colour) grading of the final images, adding warmth or frigidity to the composition of the shots to reflect the emotional subtext of the character or environment. ( Eg- ASR talked to Khushi about his parents while watching the stars..before marriage )

As they are judged by their creative talent and ability to run a production. It is the second most powerful "behind the scenes" profession in the industry, after the producer, but the director ..

Traditionally Director has a complete control "on the floor.

CV's changed the perfectionist ( LM ), Show suffered and so did the TRP'S...there is still no end it...

Old magic won't be back..

Lalit Mohan and Old IPKKND has a MAGIC of it's own. We can still watch it and can feel the intensity, Love, Attraction, Bond, Flawless scenes..list goes on and on...

as they say Ideas are easy. It's the execution of ideas that really separates the sheep from the goats.

LM is LM.

Cheers..:)

(P.S. This post is dedicated to my HH Gang and all the Lalit Mohan's fans out here..)

Nish
i hate you for reminding all those wonderful moments
and you made me cry😭

the magic which made us fall in love with the show is missing
it was lost in the stream of negotiations

the intensity, passion which had audience captivated is no where to be seen
the show has become a comedy-circus,crime show mixed
it's no more the same emotional treat we used to love
i won't say arshad is not good
the holi sequence was loved by all and it was done by arshad
but the execution and implementation of the idea has taken a back seat
director is in control of everything

the show is becoming a laughing stock recently
due to constant bloopers, mistakes in editing, inappropriate music at times(i agree we have the best music but the timing and situation to use the same should be watched),and mainly lack of logic

i know i know that i should not look for logic but the current situation is giving room to people getting upset
aren't they the same audience who gave you 4+ trp when you gave good episodes

director being the captain has to take over evrything
he has to get the expressions right on the faces of actors
churn out the best from your actors
we have wonderful actors, make use of them
explain them and demand what you want
you have so many other characters too, make use of them
don't just make them props

whether the show survives or not it depends on director
let's hope for the best for our beloved show and cvs abandoned baby

Nisha i honestly was not aware that a director has this much power in their hands. I dont know all the technicalities as such. I can only feel the result of the loss & not the reason of the loss

Amazing post Nisha as usual.

But u have given the reason very descriptively thank you for that & now i can slowly see the difference in the acting & the reasons to it.

LM please come back andolan should be started now.

Nish Bang on

Nish coming to direction
Lalith created the magic of Arshi.i should say he created a History in Indian Telivision by creating Arnav singh Raizda and Khushi kumari Gupta
his approch is very different.his screen depth is mind blowing.and i feel he never compromises on actors expressions.
the intensity he crated b/w Arshi is bang on

coming to IPKKND after Lalith
lot of people sya Arshad directed Diwali kiss scene.if it is true i must say he is also very gud director.he directed very very well that scene

but i must say Arshad is very unlucky.when he got a chance to direct the show the script is worst.innitially when LM directed all intense scenes were there but now it hs become one comedy circus naturally director will loose interst too.
1.1trps are low
2.male lead was on leave
3.ott comedy track
4.negotiantion changed the story line
5.no consistency in the tracks
result of all these fcators are bad execution

more than direction script is driving IPKKND into drain.naturally it effects direction too
no doubt LM is bang on .but i feel if script is gud we would nit have missed LM so much as we are missing him now.
no doubt Director is the capitan he creates the magic but here ship called storyline is sinking Nish so the director is helpless
now i dont think even Arshad is directing the show.roka episode amde it very clear.
Nish we have to accept whole IPKKND team lost interest in the show.except one

Nisha bang on post👏 I dont know all the technicalities involved in direction and thanks for putting it so well. I can say the difference and execution of the scenes.

Why did u remind about all the epic scenes? I can never have enough of them and I dont even know the count of number of times I have seen those scenes. Post holi I remember the count(that was thee effect of the scenes). Joh beet gaya woh beet gaya. It can never return back unless LM is back. He takes care of very small details which make the scene magical. Even Arhi eye locks were magical, intense, passionate, hot, sizzling. Now I dont find it anymore. They are good enough but still I feel something is missing. May be the magic called MIDAS TOUCH of LM.

I dont know since when you guys know LM. But I started following his work from 2009. I used to watch a show Karol Bagh on Zee for being on a taboo subject. The male lead is 6 years younger to female lead. That is what is attracted me to the show first. But later on, I got attracted to the direction, the way he took care of every small detail used to amaze me. I was enthralled by the chemistry created between the leads without even touching in the beginning of the show. Later, he left the show and it was no magical anymore. For instance, some films are watched for directors ( Imtiaz Ali, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Raj Kumar Hirani) They have their own style, which will leave audience spell bound.

When I came to know again that LM was directing this show, I was curious again. He created a sizzling chemistry on TV, which is beyond words for me.Sarun were able to create that magic because of LM direction and him taking care of every small detail as u said.

I agree director is the captain of Ship. But for any scene to leave an impact, all departments should work hand in hand. Story, screenplay, direction, I can even say costumes should go together.

U need all five fingers to make a fist😃

"You may have the best idea but if you cannot reach your audience, you will fail."
👏👏👏

Nisha...you nailed it girl, what more can I say...except I hope someone from the team sees this fantastic post and comprehends it.

I will only try to add on by giving an example of the vast difference I've personally noticed in the show...in terms of the impact certain scenes have left in the past, as opposed to now.

Arnav's apology:

This came upon finding out Khushi's parents were dead. It was captured beautifully. The right emotions were extracted from ASR. The tears in his eyes looked so real and the apology was so genuine. We immediately forgave him because it connected with us. I think a good director like LM is needed to keep Barun in character to be honest, because ASR is a complex character.

Fast forward to months later (LM long gone) and Arnav's apology to Khushi in her bedroom. I was relieved that he finally admitted his mistakes. Then I read Maverick's great post on this subject and it made me think...is that the right reaction after such a monumental scene in IPK history...relief? This is something that had been building up for months...yet it fell flat. It should have left more of a lasting impact than that. I didn't connect with Arnav the way I did earlier when he apologized to her.

As for Khushi, he did a great job handling her scenes. She had the best scenes in the first 6 months. After that, her character has been inconsistent and hard to relate to. He knew what flashback to use or what facial expression she should have to portray a certain scene, that would best reach the audience. I still love her but no longer connect with her the way I did back then.

I won't say much about the romantic scenes as it is a touchy subject here. All I'll say is that I prefer quality over quantity. We may be getting a lot of romantic scenes now but if they are not well-executed by the director and sometimes the actors, what's the point? I'd rather go back to the first 6 months when we had less romantic scenes but they would be memorable (Nainital trip for instance).

I've seen less interesting plots and less talented actors look good on other shows...because of the director bringing out the best in them. A good director has a lot to do with the overall quality of a show, which has been lacking on our show big time. The aesthetic look, the right emotions being portrayed, the polished product...everything feels incomplete or missing. That definitely affects the TRPs. I don't want to sound redundant but I really wish he would come back and bring the magic back with him...he needs to be our savior haha.

P.S. I have nothing against Arshad Khan. I just miss the old IPK which LM was associated with.

First of all I miss LM and i miss old IPK

I believe the magic went missing right after his exit and i believe only he can bring it back.

When LM was there there was intensity and passion. There was the shere intense emotions which made us feel that the characters are a part of our lives. We cried with them, laughed with them, their pain and happiness felt like it was our own.I bet that intensity and passion along with Arshi chemistry was what attracted most of us towards the show. But how many of you feel that intensity now??its been missing since ages.See even Arshi chemistry looks so lacklustre now a days.LM was able to bring out the best from his actors.Barun,Sanaya,Aabhas,Daljeet everyone was at their best most of the time. But can we apply that to the present state?? It was a time when every relationship was portrayed so beautifully.See there were plenty Arnav-Anjali scenes even then. But we never used to hate it.The list of such 'then and now' differences goes on and on.

Execution matters very much.Because bad execution can ruin any great writing. That is the main problem our show is facing now.Execution sucks. What is on the script is not transcribing perfectly onscreen. So audience are feeling disconnected.Well i am not bashing AK.Its just my POV.

Ok here is maverick's comment on LM which i loved and saved

About the director

I watched today's episode -- it is nice -- but here are a few things when I was complaining about the direction. I will analyze one episode and tell you how today's epi would have looked had Lalit Directed it.

The example I take is the "mehendi start" day -- it is the day after she wins the Sangeet Competition with his help. First, he started with keeping her away from the rest of the Gupta Bunch -- she followed them and was eating her fav Jalebi -- see he got us to think that she is already worried about the stuff he did to her the night before -- specifically the line "Tumhare Isharon Pe Na sahi, tumhare saath to nacha hain. Thanks Nahin bologi" -- if you picked up on his voice there -- there was a specific change. You will observe the same change in voice (directors tell their actors what they need from them and good ones deliver!!) -- On the first song when he goes to her and tells her "lagta hain mere bina tumhara koi kaam hi nahin banta" -- he wasnt yelling -- he was very soft. This was all reflected beautifully when she walks into through that door (back to present time on Mehendi day) -- arranged in such a way that he answers the door. Then there is the "Hi" -- listen closely to the voice -- I have had this happen to me before -- when you are actually intoxicated your voice changes -- He is intoxicated -- she is confused. His "Hi" is soft! This is direction.

Then he lets her in, calls her from behind -- Lalith lets this scene linger -- Brilliant because when there are good moments, as humans we want them to last -- that is the only way we can "feel" them -- slam bam doesnt work here -- slow does it better to set the mood!!! Then the way Khushi acts is so much Khushi like. In these scenes you will see that the lighting is so special -- the lights are all "BRIGHT" and it is all "White/Pearl" lighting to make it look bright. She looked bright and radiant.

So another point on the way he made people look. I dont think the Barun Droolers may have noticed this but as a director Lalith paid special attention to this and you can see it in them

1. Barun smiles a lot more from the start of the Sangeet Program -- in his mind all the doubts are slowly vanishing -- she is his lady love. -- clearly shown in his face -- it goes from bright to beaming.

2. Notice that on the Mehendi day, his face has a lot more "GLOW" added to it -- "we glow when we are in love" -- you will see that in our Sanaya as well! She started glowing super bright from the day of the Sangeet.

Continuing on, when she confronts him pool side, Lalith decided to keep it bright and she was pondering/talking to herself etc -- he kept that "glow in both of them". In the scene where he is standing behind her when she is all concerned about him -- he is no longer barking -- he is happy to let her yell -- Honestly when a girl I am in love with yells at me or hits me, I enjoy it immensely -- this is a guy thing -- it shows.

From then on, Barun's facial expressions are more happy and glowing than "I hate this world, yeh Duniya itni bedard hain" type! So is she. All the way from Episode 147 to 185 and then picking up after the wedding, Khushi looked her VERY BEST. She was radiant, she was beaming, she was glowing, her smile was like a 1000-watt bulb, her lines and her hesitation etc were so cool!

The main points:

Lalith developed the story and let it slowly grow with the characters -- people got better as the story progressed. She got more and more beautiful -- see there is a symbolism in this -- as we see the beauty in people they become more good looking -- it is a fact that the ones we love are always the most beautiful ones for us.

He moved from being an "Ass" to being in love -- he realized that he was in wrong with Lavanya all by himself -- he started understanding how to treat people. He fell in love and got nicer -- this is the point -- you dont have to be a flowery guy to be a nice to your loved ones -- you can always have a face for your people and one for the outside world.

In direction -- he let every single important moment LINGER long enough to have an impact. He brought and let people go from scenes with this in mind.

Finally, if he had directed the episode today, I think the impact would have been entirely different.

First off, I dont think both of them would have looked the way they did -- See there was attention to detail in Barun's clothing as well -- He made him wear a vest in Delhi!!!! The reason is simple -- Barun is skinny -- To make him look majestic to go with the character he had to add bulk -- so he added layers -- here Barun is wearing a lose shirt -- well the skinny little guy shows!!! By the way, if you notice through the show when Lalith was directing Barun always wore layers -- good for skinny guys to show bulk. he never let him wear a pyjama shirt!

Sanaya was good today because of her natural talent but the director did not help any.

If Lalith had done this -- he would have made their "hug" the highlight by showing lingering doubts and slow movements -- he would have kept Barun strong but soft -- this is what he did during Mehendi and also Haldi -- by the way on Haldi day Sanaya was out of this world beautiful. Barun looked completely out of place. Then before the hug, he would have showed her hesitate and twitch -- I dont know if you guys noticed -- the most lovable thing about Khushi was her "shifting in place" -- if you notice she is never still -- she is frigidity, shifty, moving and mumbling in Barun's presence -- showing the effect he has on her -- this is the first time they are free after he says "I love you" -- there would have been so many things going through her head -- Lalith would have made us feel those instead of just rushing her to run and hug -- run of the mill romantic movie style!!!!. She does that when she is nervous. This is her first real close hug with the guy -- you need to make people realize that -- let the scene linger a bit -- show her shifting in place, moving slowly and then suddenly gain momentum to hug him -- he could have shown similar stuff in Barun's face as well.

Honestly, Lalith would have hit this out of the park!

Now that I really understand what ruined the show I will write a long note for the "MORON of the Decade -- Gul" in my next post.
