Week after week the forum buzzs with complains about the TRPs... sometimes it is defended by the week's bad episodic performance (in terms of story line) and sometimes it causes an unroar questioning the loyalty of the audience.
There are some factors we must remember when we review this number game..
First of all this is not a war of independence... where loyalties need to be questioned. That is really childish. The audience is a free spirit that has the ultimate power of the remote... if they loose interest in a plot or story line, they do the next best thing that is known to them.. they move on.. there are some 500 odd channels available.. the options are incredible. Besides even if u miss a month of show watching it only takes a couple of episodes to get back into the groove.
Secondly, there has been a lot of negativity.. with the war of words between the makers and the viewers in the recent past that could have ticked a lot of people off, given to some arrogant statements made. Sometimes hurting the viewers sentiments can make it a ego issue.. something like you dont care if we watch, fine we wont. Such things really need to be avoided... its a dependent relationship both need each other.. now who needs whom more is a ongoing battle...
Thirdly, heaps of silly speculations, fake spoilers for a short moment of anonymous glory. There are a lot of people on the internet, more than one could fathom. Spreading false news may just drive people away if they believe that is the route the story is taking. They just dont want to go down that road...
Lastly, total lack of promotion!! Like I said there are 500 odd channels and an average person I am sure watching at least 50 of them. Now how much do you think a person can catch trying to swap between all these channels. There are times you miss a show cause you forget which day it comes or what time. A show needs an ongoing promotion backing, it keeps it fresh in people's mind and memorability is high. Besides it also gets the excitement high when big changes are happening in the story line. For example - if there is going to be a wedding... just start promoting it na.. the suspense factor of whether it will happen or not can still be maintained... but why not just promote? Why wait for poor marks card to wake up??
