EDIT:
Riti...fabulous post!
This is a very well written character...especially for television standards. Behind the facade of ruthlessness, there is still that fourteen year old boy who hasn't fully come to terms with his past. And I can't blame him. Living with a burden of knowing that his own father was responsible for his mother's death, is one of the worst kind of burden to live with. I can't even imagine. He pushed through his pain to grow up beyond his years, take responsibility of his sister, and make a place for himself in this world where no one can touch him. He has been the shoulder that everyone could cry on while he had no one to unburden himself. He took care of his family's every happiness, when there was no one to take care of his. He faces situations head on; doesn't believe in shying away from them. He is the only one that appears to have a steady moral compass in that family because he knows that deviating from it can lead to devastation.
I loved the way he told Dadi about Shyam. No hiding. No evading. Just out with it. Plain and simple.
The arnav - dadi confrontations have been steller. Dadi's coming back into his life has been bitter sweet. The first incredulous relief of actually seeing his Dadi (possibly someone who doted on him) to their face-offs starting with his feeling of abandonment, to standing up for his wife, to finally getting down to the main point - their different perspective on the events of that fateful night. It takes one to know one! Birds of a feather - both strong, both stubborn and both have a strong ego.
The 'aaja piya' was another perfect sequence. Understated and yet extremely poignant. She just wants to ease his pain and doesn't expect anything in return. And for the first time, he let's it out. He actually has a shoulder to cry one, to unburden the heavy weight of his pain that he has been carrying alone for the past 14 (or is it 15) years. And thus the healing begins...
You are so right...that night at the terrace was more about shyam betraying anjali (who is like his mother) than Khushi betraying his then unconfessed feelings. But had it been another girl, he wouldn't have married her. Whether he realizes this or not, he married di ki saut because it was Khushi.
Wonderful post!!
