It is common enough for the mother to be weighed down with terrible guilt. As for the acceptable reasons (indications) for abortion, there are several:

1. Defective baby

2. Danger to the health of the mother

3. Minor pregnancy

4. Unmarried pregnancy

5. Mother is mentally unfit

6. Failure of contraception

To name a few. It is all listed in the MTP act, the link to which I have provided. Not just the aftermath, the act itself is also not devoid of risks both on physical and mental health of those involved.
