Chapter 1 - The fateful night.
Khushi knew but one thing, it was now or never. She wanted to take control and wanted her life back.
She had walked out on him, months ago and never once looked back, but destiny as we know, had different plans.
Arnav knew how a little part in him died the day she left his abode. Abandoning him with nothing but memories.
Memories that would haunt him.
They had a tangled past, one that was filled with remorse, regret, angst, hatred, sorrow and an underlying emotion that had knotted them together.
August 19th, 7:30pm - Delhi
Khushi stood at the bus stop across the Laxmi temple, she couldn't wait to get home to Amma.
She heard her stomach rumble and with that a shudder rang up in the sky, a smile lit up her face and she uttered in a whisper "looks like Devi Mayya's hungry too".
She looked at her watch and thought to herself a quick temple visit would be perfect, besides she knew it was time for the daily prayers.
She ran across the street and bought a small garland, a dry coconut and some sweet to offer as Prasad.
She didn't have elaborate prayers and wishes. All she said was "God bless me and bless everybody."
She was about to turn and leave the temple when she suddenly felt a familiar feeling rouse within, a nervousness of some sorts. She dared herself to not look behind. She started backing up a few steps, her eyes still fixed on the idol, slowly chanting Devi Mayya's name.
The evening prayers begun and everyone was lost in the resonating praises for the god. Her pulse was no longer rhythmical, she knew this feeling and also banished the thought. Few steps more and she almost stumbled, her cellphone came crashing to the floor. She muttered to herself "Calm down Khushi, you're in the safest place." With that, she eased her body a little and bent down to pick up the cellphone."
She turned around and all her fears came true. Khushi saw her and froze.
Arnav sunk lower in the bucket seats of his new car. He always preferred taking the sedan when he drove his Di around town.
He restlessly tapped on the dash board and then slouched forward to rest his head on the wheel. His mind was blank and he enjoyed not having any thoughts in his head.
Suddenly he heard a thud on the bonnet, someone had just collided with his car and broken his meditative state of mind.
Anger rose and Arnav lifted his head only to see a blue cloth spread across the length of his windscreen.
He unlocked the car door and stepped forward, he saw a woman hurriedly picking up flowers and dusting herself. Her back was facing him. She fumbled as she rose and swiftly pulled her dupatta on. She had heard someone get out of the car and she knew that now was not the time to get into an argument.
She hastily apologized and before she could turn to face him, she heard him say "Khushi".
