Thanks for responding, people. I am concerned as to why there is this much focus on her 'silliness' by other characters. Even her mom and aunt feel the need to 'apologise' for her silliness. That just makes me sad somehow.

Interesting post. This is an oft used idea in fiction, of communicating affection through something that is vaguely insulting. If you watch HIMYM, apparently when Robin tells Ted/Barney *idiot* it is meant to be understood as *iloveyou*. But I get what you mean, ASR's darkness and Khushi's silliness is exaggerated just because the CVs want to hold on to the opposites attract tag. Oppposites might attract but relationships happen only when inspite of those opposites you meet each other halfway. I don't think the CVs have figured out that halfway point as yet.
I wouldn't want a devdas like Arnav and similarly I wouldn't like a stoic Khushi either.
An interesting post. Liked reading everyone's take on it. I agree that the Khushi's silliness badge is way too abused, especially by the writers. They almost turn her into Salman Khan, who btw does ridiculous things and people think it is funny. A movie superstar can pull that off, because it is for 3 hours every year during Ramzan, but it is an overkill in a daily soap. I love the funny Khushi, prone to quirkiness, as long as they don't mess with her most endearing quality, her heart. Else there is fear of her becoming superficial.
I think Arnav loves her for reasons other than her pagalness. Agree with Ragini's reading on that. She does take away his edge though, which probably is why he loves as well as loathes her.
@Ragini: "When life throws you a curveball, it is better to play catch than storing them in lemon juice and pickling it for posterity." Haha. Thank you for that!
