Well, Indian Laws a bit nebulous on the legal status of this marriage.According to text of IPC Hindu Marriage Act of 1955, a hindu marriage is considered solemnized if and only if Saptapadi - ie seven rounds around a pyre is completed. In some exceptional cases, the marriage is considered solemnized if the culture or region does not have the tradition of saptapadi eg. in Kerala.
So, in the strictest sense, khushi or asr can seek annulment because the marriage is not consummated and it was a forced marriage from khushi's perspective. Annulment is even faster than divorce.
However, if the couple consummates it and/or lives together more than a month, then its considered a legal marriage, especially since it has been recognized by the kith and kin. Indian laws are a bit grey on this, but i think this marraige will be considered legal if they live out the 6 month duration, otherwise it is still ground for annulment.
Ah, I see. Thank you so much! I was not clear of the laws. So they need not get it certified by court. Interesting. But either ASR or Khushi would still need proof of their wedding, right? What if one refused to acknowledge it? Like, what if Khushi does not acknowledge the marriage because technically it was not done "willingly". I mean, ASR doesn't even have proof of their wedding!
p.s. last question, I promise! Did ASR and Khushi go through with all of the rituals? They didn't even do the Saptapadi, right? I mean, I don't know. I didn't watch their wedding episode..so I have no idea.
