So, Avatar and Profile picture are two different things. Avatar is the one that comes with every post and can be animated (GIF-moving pictuers) whereas Profile Picture is the one that is there on your profile and if you don't have an Avatar then that picture is automatically your Avatar. So, from what I understand is that you updated your profile and it has suddenly disappeared. So, now go to your dashboard>preference tab>Show Video Avatars + Banner Signatures (CLICK YES for this).

Now, scroll down to where it says "Avatar Link." If you have the picture on your laptop then upload it on and copy-paste the link that is "http://..."
