Falling out of love…if it was possible!
Everyone was eating dinner. Khushi and Payal were serving food to everyone just like any good bahus would do. Aakash asked Payal to join him for dinner, Payal sat down beside Aakash to eat with her hubby. Khushi was still serving everyone and kept looking back and forth at the door, obviously waiting for Arnav to come home. Shyam of course was at the table, asked Khushi to sit with them and eat as well, she turned and looked at him and said "jija ji, you are having dinner with your wife, jiji is having dinner with her husband, I am waiting for my husband to come home so I can eat with my HUSBAND." Shyam of course pissed hearing this, knowing the truth behind their marriage. Anjali admired Khushi for being such a good wife to her hot-headed brother.
Everyone was done with their dinner; Khushi was still waiting for Arnav to come home so she could eat too. Anjali told Khushi to call him and find out when he was going to come home, Khushi nods and obviously she didn't call him because you never know what would he say to her. Khushi thought to herself "I will just wait for him to come back whenever he does, I don't think I should call him, he is not too fond of me calling him anyway."
Khushi decides to go the room and wait for him there, since she didn't want Shyam to stare at her with those lustful eyes. Khushi went to the pool side and got her bed ready, sat there while talking to herself as usual. Thinking about lot of stuff, lately she would find herself thinking lot more than talking. Whatever happened to that lively unstoppable non-stop talker… she wondered. She had no idea when she fell asleep.
It was past midnight, Arnav entered RM all drenched in water. OP comes and takes his bag. Arnav tells him to make him coffee and asks where everyone is? OP updates him on everybody. Arnav asks OP to serve dinner since he has to finish one of the projects he is working on and he wants to eat before he goes to his room. He finishes his dinner and tells OP to bring his coffee to his room. He opens the door to his room and doesn't see Khushi anywhere. Not that she would be in the room because she was rarely there, but since it was raining so hard, she had to be in the room waiting for him to come back.
Terror shook him when he realized that she might still be outside in the rain and thunder. He closes his room door, opens the pool side and sees Khushi just sitting there, blankly staring at nothingness. Just curled up in her blanket and just staring eyes wide open. He ran to her as fast as he could, pulled her up and pulled her inside the room. As soon as she was in the room, he had lost it by now, "are you out of your mind, you have no common sense? You can't come in when it's raining outside? What are you trying to show, that you are so bechari? Do you think you can attract MY attention with these stunts of yours? What do you think you are doing?
Not hearing any answer whatsoever, he turns around to find his wife on the floor. She was drenched with water, water dripping from her sari, her hair, even her eyelashes. His body shivered as he saw Khushi on the floor like that. He picked her up as fast as he could and put her on the bed. "Khushi, Khushi, wake up, can you hear me Khushi? Wake up. He started rubbing her hands to eventually realize that she had high fever. He ran to the bathroom to grab a towel to dry her hair and tucked her under his blanket.
He looked at her regretting why he had yelled at her so much. It was HIS fault anyway; he was the one who had asked her to stay out of his room at any cost. He wanted to her to go back to being herself this instant. He wanted her to talk to him, annoy him, irritate him, but she was so still, it scared him. He looked at her drenched body and realized that her wet clothes would not help her with the fever. He just stood there wondering how he should get her to change her clothes, he walked towards the door to go get payal, hoping she wouldn't mind helping Khushi.
But then he stopped, what was he going to tell payal? Why is Khushi wet? Why can't he help his wife change her clothes? Why did he have to get someone else to do it? While he pacing back and forth in panic he heard a knock on the door, "come in", he said in a very distracted manner. OP walked in with his coffee and tray of dinner. He was already too confused to think anything else, he looked at OP and said "I already had dinner, are YOU losing your mind too?", OP replied "sir, this is for khushi ji, she didn't have dinner with everyone else, she was waiting for you to come home".
OP leaves the room.
Arnav just stared at his beautiful wife, so nave, so innocent, so STILL. He wanted to yell at himself for yelling at her. He was the one who asked her to stay there, to never come to his room to sleep, to not invade his privacy. She did exactly what he told her to do. Obviously this wasn't the time to worry about other things. He just wanted to make sure Khushi doesn't get worse. He ran towards his wardrobe, grabbed a hoodie, and came back where Khushi was sleeping.
He pulled her up slowly, he looked at her with guilt, she looked so helpless. He remembered the night where she was stuck in the guest house and how he had rescued her while she had fainted. He had always caused her so much pain. Why couldn't he just for once make her life easier? He kept looking at her not knowing what he should do next. He put her back on the bed again.
He wasn't sure if he should change her wet clothes. But at the same time, he couldn't just let her sleep like that all night. He didn't have any problem changing her clothes because that was more important right now, he thought, but he didn't want Khushi to think that he invaded her privacy while she was unconscious. He remembered all the times when Khushi got really uncomfortable while she would drop her dupattas around him. He didn't want her to feel uncomfortable or upset her.
He was still staring at her unconscious body, just lay on his bed, wet, helpless, sick and still. He got up, walked towards the light switch, and turned the lights off. He walked back to the bed and pulled her up again halfway holding her upper arms. She was sitting on the bed with her upper body fallen on his chest, motionless. The only light they had in the room was moonlight coming from poolside.
He closed his eyes, something he hadn't planned on doing, picked her sari's pallu from her shoulder and pulled it down slowly. He felt her body shiver with cold. Her wet hair on his face, her quiet breath on his neck and her body so close to him. It was getting hard for him to not look at her. But he still had his eyes closed. Closed eyes felt better anyways, he didn't have to look at her to know how beautiful she must be looking right now.
He tried to stay focused; he stretched his arm out to pick up the hoodie to put it on her. As soon as he picked up the hoodie, he felt her arms hug him. He remained still, not knowing what to do. "Ar…arnav…ji…", he heard her speak, he slowly pulled her away from his body, with is one hard on back of her neck, he looked at her, she was still unconscious, she was sleep talking. He knew she talked in her sleep when she was excited, but didn't know she did it in sickness as well. "Ar…arna..v..ji..", she said again, "whhhyyy… tell….me…can't…" and she just fell on his chest again. He managed to put the hoodie on her and put her back down. He was getting up when she pulled him back holding his shirt, still unconscious. She was holding on to him and mumbling again. "Arnav…ji…how…why…you….should…" and tears started rolling down her eyes.
He wiped her tears, unlocked her hands from his shirt and put it down on the bed. He covered her with blanket, tucking her nicely. He didn't think he could do anymore of this. He got up quickly and called his family doctor explaining him what happened. The doctor assured that what he did was perfectly fine, if her fever didn't get better by the morning, he would come and check her.
Arnav looked at the dinner tray, looked at Khushi again, all the guilt was killing him from inside. He didn't know how to make this any better. He couldn't see her like this but he was the one who got her in this mess. He didn't want to look at her but couldn't hold himself back from looking at her. He wanted to hate her but couldn't do it. Why did she do that, why did she betray him, why did she betray his sister, why did she betray his family? WHY? The whole terrace incident started flashing back like it was happening right now, again, in front of him.
He couldn't take it anymore, he went to the bathroom, stood under the cold shower, just wanted to wash all his feelings away for good, all the love for her, all the care for her, all the emotions for her and all the guilt for her. She was not worth it. NOT WORTH IT.
Little that he knew, if washing feelings away would be this easy, he would have done it long time ago when he had started to fall for her.To be continued…
