I didn't enjoy the show in the beginning. ASR was hot and everything, but I didn't think Khushi was that pretty. I remember kind of just going through the first 20 or so episodes rolling my eyes at the coincidences and silly supporting cast and skipping to the ArnavKhushi interaction hoping to see something there. There was chemistry, but it wasn't mesmerizing or really cute enough. Obviously, later I'd get hooked on it - probably happened somewhere around the hospital hug scene. It was, when I heard Tu Hi Bata Meri Maula during the tearful walk, I was in for it.
I watched the show really, really fast. Maybe about five months worth of episodes in 3-5 days. Whenever I watch the current episodes, I always think to myself, wow, they're such better actors now that they were before. They've gotten so much better at this, the show is more attractive, the plotlines are tighter, etc.
Now that I am rewatching it again, and I'm religiously not fast-forwarding any scenes (yes, even the creepy Shyam ones), and my opinion has changed.
- In the past episodes, the show had a much broader, semi-believable scope. I guess we'd kill the CVs now if they even remotely attempted to not give us mainly Arnav Khushi scenes. Because the characters have all sufficiently interacted with each other, the show is much more compact now, focusing on the relationship between the leads. However, everything before that was really well done buildup
- The past episodes seem to hint a lot more at Arnav and Anjali's respective issues. His business partners acknowledge that he is a ruthless, arrogant, unforgiving man, a fact that many of choose to forget and frequently question when bashing Arnav's behavior. As for Anjali, building on my Anjali knows everything theory, she is insanely clingy. She does the stupid vraths, her innumerable pujas, the constant tracking of Arnav and her husband. She forgives incredibly easily, does not stand up for herself, manipulates Khushi into working for the Raizadas, manipulates Dadi into letting La stay with the family.
- As for Khushi. I noticed something about her that has always kind of niggled at the back of my mind. She has a need to do everything and take care of everyone in her family. In the earlier episodes, Buaji is constantly harassing her, taunting her, almost to the point of viciousness. Yet, Khushi puts this behind her. In my opinion, she has some kind of psychological issue of losing her family again and is willing to do anything to never estrange them. (Marrying Arnav to save Payal, taking on a job to provide for the family, keeping her worries to herself, always looking to please others, gain approval through whatever means ie silly pranks, song and dance lol)
While I don't believe the show hasn't gotten better (it most certainly has) but it was always well rendered to begin with.
What about you guys? When were you hooked on the show? Did you like the earlier/(iest) episodes? What scene/episode/moment made you become obsessed?
