ONE SHOT: THE TRUTH HE TOLD & THE DECISION SHE MADE
PART 1: THE TRUTH HE TOLD
"Enough." She jerked back hearing her own husband's voice. She rolled her eyes towards his family who were standing in front them with rage filled faces. She watched him as he began to move forward, then stopping in front of his nani before he began to speak in low deadly voice, "I had enough of this."
He paused for a moment, controlling his rising temper, before he continued in steady voice "whether you all like it or not, she is my wife. I want you people to love and respect her just like you love me. I can't understand you people. You always wanted this. But now you act like you don't want this. What do you expect from me?"
Nani got hold of his shoulder as she spoke "I have to ask you this question, chotey. What do you expect from us?" she shook him as she repeated her question "What do you expect from us?" before letting him free. He tilted his head towards kushi as he said "accept her."
Nani took a deep breath before she began to talk "she is not the problem, chotey. You are the problem." He looked at his nani trying to study her as she continued "you said you don't want get married, we accepted it. Then you brought a girl to house saying that you are in relationship with her and we accepted it." He looked at his grandmother without breaking eye lock.
"One day, you said you want to marry her and we were on cloud nine. Next day, you said you broke up with her and we accepted it. All of sudden you married kushi and you are asking us to accept it. Then after six months, you will divorce her and will say she is no more your wife and we must accept it. Is that what you want, chotey? Accept whatever you do? Is that?"
She turned towards him in shock after hearing nani's words. She observed him as different emotions played on his otherwise expressionless face. First shock just like her, then hurt, then guilt and finally pain. Nani's voice brought her back to the world "if that is what you want from us, then forget it." There was stubbornness in nani's voice which reminded her of him.
Anjali, unable to control her sob, quickly left the place. Nani pointed towards Anjali and said "see, what you have done to your sister." Kushi blankly stared at Anjali's retreating back until his voice caught her attention. "Whatever I do is only for di's happiness, nani. One day or other you will understand it." Having said so he left to his room.
Kushi barely noticed when payal said something to her. All she could her was 'Whatever I do is only for di's happiness, nani.' She looked at her sister in shock when she shook her. Without acknowledging her sister, she made her way towards his room slowly digesting the truth. Once reached her destination, she locked the room and moved towards him who was sitting on bed.
She took a deep breath, preparing herself for what is on the way for her, she said "so that's why you married Me." it was statement rather than a question. He looked up at her with questioning look. She folded her arms as she spoke in confident voice "you know about me and shyam. And that's why you married me."
She saw him froze for a second. Then he composed himself as he stood up and walked past her. She closed her eyes to control her rising rage and turned towards him as she yelled "how can you even think of that?" he stopped and turned towards her as she said "how can you even think that I will betray anjaliji."
He gaped the distance between them in a second, almost making her to fall back, but he held her firmly by holding her shoulders. "iam not going to fall for your innocent act this time. I saw it with my own eyes and heard it with my ears. You asked that ba***rd to leave my di. Don't ever try to deny it." He freed his grip making her to fall back on the bed.
He almost reached the door when he heard her voice again. Her trembling voice made him to stop in his track. "Okay. You saw me with that creep and heard a part of our conversation. You thought I will spoil your sister's life and to prevent that you married me. Fine. But in this whole process, didn't you ever felt that I must be given a chance to explain myself?"
He suppressed his urge to turn back, after hearing her pain stricken voice; he quickly grabbed the doorknob only to turn back when he felt her hand on his. She was standing so near to him, hurt evident in her eyes. "Even now you don't feel like giving me a chance to explain myself." Though her tone was confident, he could still feel pain in it.
"Why?" she asked. "Because I am not ready to buy your lies." He replied. "You are a fool." She shot back as she stepped back. "Even if anjaliji had witnessed it, she would have handled the situation much better unlike you." She came near him and held him by shoulders, like he always does, as she shook him "look at me arnavji."
She began to speak again when her eyes held his. "You know me, don't you? Do you really think that I will do something like that to you and anjaliji?" the innocence in her eyes proved her purity. He lost in the depth of her eyes which told him to believe her. After few minutes, she whispered "trust me, arnavji."
"No" he turned his head to other side breaking their eye lock. "I don't want to trust you." He looked at her as he said "I don't want to trust anybody anymore. I had enough trusting other. ten years back, I trusted everybody." He moved little more closer to her as he continued "do you know what I paid for that mistake? My mother's life."
"What did you say? Fool. Yes, I am fool to repeat my mistakes. I should have learnt from the past. But I repeated my mistake and almost lost my di. I am not going to do that mistake again." He stepped back and turned to his left as he ran his fingers through his hair, then whispered "I should have not done this. I must have not believed you; trusted you; loved you. It's my mistake."
She stared at him unbelievingly. She started to step back as he moved forward. "You made me to believe in things that I don't believe. You made me to fall for you." He pinned her to the closet. ". I trusted you. But you made me to pay well for my mistake. You broke my trust. You broke my heart."
"You are the one who made me to feel all emotions. But now all that I could feel for you is just hatred." She immediately looked up at him. Pain and hatred was evident in his eyes. He left the place leaving completely shattered kushi behind.
