This is basically a no-win situation for you. If you write serious, people want funny. If you write funny, they ask if you can do serious. Only a few select people (ahem ahem!) love you, no matter what you write.

Completely agree with you! I think people that disagree should go read The Spiral Staircase, especially of they only see one side of the situation. I think people are forgetting that he loves her even of he chooses to ignore or not think about it.

Personally, I don't think he ever could. A man is made by the company he shares...sure he's an agressive egotistical crazy angry young man...but those people in his life pay a big part in who he is today.

Anjali is predominant in that list. A mother figure is whom she was compared to recently.
A fact is that he's clearly possessive over Anjali and in the same way, she's the only person whose opinion matters most to him, especially when it's about him. He always admits that "it's only for my Di's sake that I'm tolerating you Khushi Kumari Gupta"...etc etc, to some extent the somewhat respect he gives his family is only to keep her happy too. He couldn't rape Khushi, for one like you said it's Khushi and he loves her but the close association of the Anj-KKG means Anjali would find out-he'd never be able to justify his actions to someone who wouldn't condone the same, Anjali would never allow it and he'd live a life of shame and guilt. Anjali would definitely disown him, he couldn't risk that.

Maybe the whole "snapping of the pearl strings" showed a threat in the past but he's not the same Arnav now, a lot has changed since then...people in his life mean more to him whether he likes it or not, he's not capable of it anymore :)

Agreed, whatever his reasoning, his marrying her because subconsciously he still loves her! Btw - I'm seeing these rape posts and I'm wondering how that will solve anything?!🤣
