@Diya, agree with what you have written! With protogonists like Arnav and Khushi, the creatives have to come up with an antagonist / villain who matches up to them in depth and character...even in his evilness! For me, Shyam comes across more or less comical and mostly very irritating! He doesn't evoke fear or loathing in the audience...most of us skip scenes which have Shyam in it! Which is not good...a character, whether negative or positive should have the power to engage the audience!
Your example of the characters in Marayda is excellent! Both B. Jhakkar and Roshini Devi are the sort of negative characters who keep you hooked on to the screen, even if they fill you with loathing! Shyam fails completely in this mission!
Abhaas is a fine actor, but he has been given a very wishy-washy type of role and there is not much he can do about it! I mean, how much can you emote, having a one-sided conversation with an invalid man?😕
I think this weeks' mahaepisode will push the story in full gear...and things will definitely spice up after Arnav and Khushi's wedding!
PS: Also, I simply cannot understand why on earth are the creatives shying away from showing an intense storyline between Arnav and Khushi! Why do the creatives have to dilute the seriousness of the story and their relationship by showing these so-called 'light moments' in between? Its not a comedy show...its a love-story...why not make it like one? Passionate, Intense, Raging and Serious?
