With the wrong person
At the wrong time
On the wrong finger
Presided by the wrong person
Amidst tears of sadness shed by all her loved ones
With only the domineering Buaji and the slimy Snake gloating over their achievement
Truly it had all the signs of a fake engagement (a sham engagement for Shyam)
Contrast this with her dreamy engagement with her hero yesterday:
Although it was totally unplanned her engagement happens
With the right person
At the right time
On the right finger
Amidst holy chants and chiming bells
With the blessings of the Gods
And in the presence of the priest
Truly this one had all the signs of a real engagement (an awesome engagement for Arnav)
Khushi may have got a diamond ring from the snake (which by the way has been bought with Arnav's money and so technically it is Arnav's) but it brings her only pain. On the other hand, the bandage ring Arnav gave her is a remedy for her pain (although he may have been responsible for it in the first place).
After the drab engagement, the snake may have been voicing false concerns about her emotional state but they fell on deaf ears as she silently cringed from within, listlessly accepting his gift without as much as a look at what it is. On the other hand, although acid dripped from Arnav's tongue after their dreamy engagement, it only made her stand up for her self respect and walk away with her head held high.
She may have sworn never to set her eyes on Arnav again but she cannot dislodge him from her mind. She has company in this though. The man she cannot stop thinking about is also unable to stop thinking about her try as he may. His restlessness at the time that his beloved was getting engaged to another belied the tall claims he made earlier that she means nothing to him.
He uses up all the tissues in an effort to rid off her blood stain from his finger after being moved by it. This scene reminded me of Lady Macbeth trying to do the same, the only difference being that she was trying to rid herself of her guilt but here Arnav is trying to get rid off memories of the only woman who will be his saviour.
