The Three Women in Arnav's life
When Arnav came down to help with the lights, Anjali, Lavanya and Khushi were all standing in a row looking up at him. If you noticed, their ordering was according to their entry into Arnav's life. Anjali has been there from his birth. So she was standing closest to him. Then stood Lavanya who entered his life about seven months back and finally stood a very nervous Khushi who has entered his life only about a month ago and is now dwelling in his heart 24/7. While Anjali and La were happy to see Arnav, their faces brightening up at the sight of him, Khushi looked more perturbed to see him because she knew it would be difficult to bridle her racing heart beat in his close proximity. Despite standing close to his sister, Arnav's eyes are fixed on Khushi, making her all the more self conscious. What can I say, when Khushi is in Arnav's line of vision, everyone else goes out of his focus. When Anjali remarked that Khushi managed to bring him down with just one call, he hastened to respond that he came only to make sure Khushi was not making anymore mistakes. While Anjali smiled disbelievingly, La's face reflected her relief that Arnav was not developing any soft corner for Khushi (of late I think she is already beginning to see signs of it). Khushi on the other hand looked disappointed that Arnav still thought that she was inefficient.
The Rangoli and the Fall that Smudged it
Coming to the elaborate rangoli, I think it symbolised the impending wedding arrangements for Khushi-Shyam wedding. While Khushi was filling the 'heart' design of the rangoli, she has her own private conversation with her Devi Maiyya, wondering if her favourite goddess was upset with her because she did not like the prasad she gave the previous week for she still has not given a response to her query on the wedding. When Anjali catches her muttering to herself she asks her about it and thoughtlessly she says that she was thinking about her wedding. Arnav's expression hearing this was priceless. If she had not realised what she had just blurted out and hastened to change it to thinking about Anjali's marriage, I wonder what he really would have done. He seemed relieved to hear that Khushi was only curious to know how his sister got married but was he all ears for the conversations between the two women who matter to the most in his life! What is remarkable is that he was genuinely interested in the talk on love and marriage and did not have his usual cynical expression hearing his sister's words about how to know if the person is the right one for him/her. If anything he seemed to realise that his feelings for Khushi mimicked his sister's apparent feelings for her husband and he was indeed in love. Khushi too seemed to realise this when she looked up to confirm if his eyes reflected what she felt. After Anjali leaves the place, Khushi too gets up to leave, her eyes fixed on a busy Arnav. Noticing him totter at the edge of the stool she hastens to warn him but it is too late and Arnav went crashing to the floor.
Seeing the direction in which he fell, I would have thought he would crush our delicate Khushi to a pulp but miracles of miracles, Arnav defied the laws of gravity and crashed to the floor first so that he could cushion Khushi who also tripped and fell on him. Their fall smudged the rangoli and it was all over them. Khushi's hand got caught under Arnav and she did her best to extricate it but could not. Finally Arnav had to move away so as to free her hand. After they got up Khushi noticed that she had smudged the colour on his neck and tries to wipe it clean only to be stopped by Arnav. Seeing her startled expression he points to the fact that her hand is already smeared in colour.
Coming to the symbolism of the fall. I feel that Arnav would accidentally come to know of Khushi's wedding and may land right in the middle of it much like how he fell on the rangoli. He will drag Khushi with him and they will be smeared in the colour of wedding (yellow and red), meaning that he may hastily marry her and thereby protect her from Snake Shyam although that was not his primary intention. She may get emotionally squashed by him (much like how her hand got caught under him) as he misunderstood her. Finally she will be freed only after he realises how much he was hurting her and releases her on his own. Once she is freed, she herself will approach him to wipe away the colour (yellow which is symbolic of marriage) from his neck. Maybe she will offer to free him from their marriage. He will, however, stop her from doing so because her hand was smeared with pink. Now pink is the colour of love. Knowing how much she really loves him, he may want to continue staying married to her.
