Not knowing another way to handle each others presence and company, Arnav and Khushi chose to spend the rest of the time after they got outta the forest in silence. She talked too much, and he didn't speak at all. Two extremes that would be hard to bridge unless either one of them was ready to make a concession. Both of them knew, the other wouldn't, and hence happily blamed the other!
As they got out, Arnav promptly called in for a cab since they had now crossed the out-skirts of Delhi, and the service there was now available. When he made her get into the car, he deliberated for a moment, was it safe to send her back alone? it would take her three hours before she would get home, and way before sunset. Why did he care anyway? She was just a staff and he was ASR!!! After having told the cab-driver where "madam" had to be dropped with a warning in his eyes, ASR turned to proceed towards the destination he had set out to.
But as the car started moving in the opposite direction, he suddenly felt something for the first time. Dhak Dhak-pause-Dhak Dhak!!!! this confused him. He turned around... to look at the car, which was now a couple of hundred meters away!! Was his health doing a number on him again?? Dhak-Dhak he felt it again, and this time he felt a lump in his throat as well. Needless to say, Khushi Kumari Gupta, wanted the car to stop, the Tyre to go flat once more and the repeated pulsating heart beat to stop .. "hey devi maiyya, ab toh hum unse door jaa rahey hai na... toh fir bhi hume aisa kyun lag raha hai ... kahin pakodiyon main humne zyada tel toh nahi daal dia ...????"
She looked at her hand, her favorite bangle was gone. There were two of them in that color and one of them was missing!!! Should she go back and look for it? Wouldnt that be crazy? well, is that why she wanted to go back?? She knew it was not!! did she want to actually be around Laad Governor? That man, who always made her feel and realise she was not even worth 2 pennies? And as she thought, she turned around and looked, only to see a speck from a distance that she thought could be him... She leaned back in the back seat of her car, with her eyes closed as the driver, a slightly elderly man of her father's age said..."gaane chalaye madam ji ... ????"
Khushi is too dazed... "aap humse umar main bade hai, aap hume madam mat bulayiye ..."
Driv: lekin .. aapke patiji ne toh ...
Khu: wo humare pati nahi hai ... (she immediately reacted, though a little embarrassed)
This had been the third time some one had said this about them and now the thought had begun to worry her a little more!!
Driv: jo bhi ho .. pyaar bahut karte hai aapse... jiss tarah se ... mujhe ghoor ghoor ke dekh rahey the, aur warning di ...!! main toh darr hi gaya ...
Khu: aap bas gaana chalayiye chacha ...!!! aur hum bas unke yahan kaam karte hai, aur humne woh galti se ... ( she goes on to explain why and how she got there to the minutest of detail why she had landed up where she was)
She was home, before sunset as ASR had anticipated ...!! But she certainly wasn't relieved or happy on reaching her destination!
She ignored everything her parents and buaji had said in anxiety as her mind was elsewhere ... a plate of freshly made motichoor ladoos and jalebis fell prey to flies and ants !!
And then ... the phone rang !! and her heart began to race yet again... she knew it had to be him ... she thought, he had called to check if she had made it home safe ... and then she caught buaji talking away to someone in her loud voice? was Bua ji yelling at Arnav? She ran to the fone and pulled it from her, and said in a hurry ... "hello ... hum theek se pahunch gaye hai ... "
"yeh toh badi acchi baat hai Khushi ji ... " said Shyam on the other side and she had never been this disappointed to hear Shyams voice ever before... she made small talk handed over the phone to bua ji and walked back into her room ... why would ASR call her ? why did she think he would do it? she was losing it!!! she decided ... "ek din uss laad governor ke saath rahi toh mera yeh haal ho raha hai ... pata nahi Lavanya ji unko kaise jhelti hongi ... hume lagta hai .. hume sona chahiye ... "
Arnav cuts the call on the other hand... Anjali had informed him, how Payal was dropped home since it was already late, and Khushi had also reached by then ! Arnav had been relieved, he had been worried ever since she had left, and he had called the Cab Service guy and had specifically told him that he would sue their company if something went wrong, though again, he didnt know what prompted him to do so! Sitting alone in the hotel room in Nainital, he for the first time, felt the urge to run back home ! The meeeting didnt seem important, the broken bangle in his pocket seemed to pierce his heart... He kept looking at it, as though looking for answers ... The dhak dhak had happened to him as well, each time it happened to her as well, only he didnt mention it !! But today, he didnt feel like ignoring it or avoiding it anymore ...
He wanted to be home... He wanted to see that little pearl he had preserved in his cupboard and hadnt thrown away... he wanted to see that anklet... he wanted to know if that torn peace of dupatta was still somewhere in the dikky of his SUV ...he knew he was acting weird .. but this was exactly what he felt !! He couldnt picture the face of Khushi Kumari Gupta, but everything about and around her suddenly seemed relevant !!!
He knew, he had only been protective towards his sister all his life- today he felt that for Khushi too ...
He knew La had told him in numerous times how much she loved him, but today Khushi's silence before she left disturbed him ...
He could only recollect how she panicked and took care of him while there was no one else in the house ... The otherwise blabbermouth had not told his family about his attack only because he had asked her to !!! and the way she kept coming back to him time and again asking him ... "aap theek toh ho na???? " he remembered the scene again and burst out laughing earlier in the morning ... and as he laughed hard ...and harder, his heart suddenly felt heavy, and he felt tears trickle down his eyes...and the state he was in he knew he wouldnt be able to stop them !!!
Else where, Khushi had tears in her eyes too .. as she wet her pillow while sleeping off !! she wondered, how it would have been like had see she been at Nainital instead of Delhi ... The thought set her heart racing and all she could think of was that one man who had clouded her thoughts and imagination and the restlessness drove her crazy !!!
