Shyams character is very badly conceived and everyday getting worse and becoming more like a filmy villain .

And it is completely my opinion - he is not as great an actor . At least I do not think so , as a villain he overacts , very theatrical . Not my type . 😕

Anu right? your title caught my eye.. as I was simply randomizing through the forum.. was wondering if it had anything to do with Syal's book.. and lo and behold... as you said.. both books are good.. Anita and Me touched a chord with me I guess owing to my age then😆.. have you seen the movie on the same.. wanna say Syal acted and was involved in the scripting stage...

anyhow.. let me think how I could be on topic here..😆 esp considering I have a backlog of multiple weeks wrt this show..I had once in the beg of this show said Shyam's character and his analogy with Wickham was intriguing.. but going by your take on it.. sigh.. it transpired typically.. putting wickham to shame eh.. or is his ulterior motive still obscure owing to some high point in the future... hoping there is one.. and its not tame.. but thts a tall order I guess.. whatever I had seen of the actor.. he cld have carried the multiplicity in Shyam well if the makers decided to give him any depth.. but oh well.. as far as they meet the TRP requirements.. logic and story-telling can take a hike..😆

I have repeated posted that Shyam is the one to watch out. His obession about Kushi has never been given any justification so far. Not even an hint why he is doing like this.

I had hopes for Shyam, but now I realize he is just another concocted sleazebag without a purpose...or rather with the sole purpose of being a thorn in the ArHi love story. I don't think the CV's thought to give him a meaning or significance beyond that. What a waste of a great actor.

Shyam is a snake who has slithered his way into the two households smoothly. But his charaterisation is yet muddled. We all hate him and curse him, thats understandable.But the Cvs need to give some background for his behaviour.

BTW Abbas has superbly played this role and has really got into the skin of this Shyam .Kudos to him.

@Su - maybe the reason why Abbhas' acting is not appealing is because you thought he was going to be her brother. I think he is appropriately creepy...but this week has been tended toward B-movie villain.

@Zainab - he isn't a good villain because he started out grey and could have and should have been a good man making bad choices. But now he's a villain, and we don't have any clue what makes him tick. I mean honestly, is he a creep for sh*ts and giggles or what?! Read the books - they are really good. I mean how could anything from the writer of Goodness Gracious Me be bad??

@Shalu - it's ludicrous to think Shyam - who popped out of the blue - will risk everything he has because he must avenge Khushi's tears. Did he fall off the turnip truck? 😉

@Jalebiii - I didn't think Anjali was meant to be helpless in that regard. There was a sketch of the character and it said she was supposed to be such a person that you forgot about her handicap. If her handicap is what Shyam has a problem with or cannot love her for that reason, it needs to be explained. Right now, he's a guy acting on his hormones.

@mommy - It is Anu! My whole purpose for posting this thread was so that just in case there are 4 Lions trolls skimming through, they would see how discontent we are with the characterization of Shyam. He has got to have a purpose beyond raging hormones and lack of psychotropic medication.

@Fary - I want substance too. The whole Lucknow thing at this point is so random, but honestly it would make sense to explain it now. We have seen that he skips out claiming work all the time - and in that first epi, I believe Anjali told Arnav that jijaji was working. As for ASR pulling pranks, we know he has done it in the past - maybe Khushi reawakens it in him. 😉

@Radhe - I also find it hard to believe that ASR has no clue. Did Shyam suddenly become a wandering philanderer after marriage - was he one before and if he was, then why would he marry Anjali. People need to know!! (well at least Anu does) I am wondering if the smirk today at the end is because he feels he has one over on Bauji isince Anjali left, but doesn't realize he has written down the plates.

@Sonali - I cannot stand his random randiness - which is what his character is boiling down to. Bring on the ulterior motive!!! (I didn't see the movie - I don't think - but wait, I think I may have because Meera Syal was in it, with her real life husband - I am confused 😕)

Agree- great views here; I cannot understand why they must waste such good talent as Abbas on sucha worthless track; if khushi could be shown as finding out about Shyam, then the whole matter would attain greater subtlelty rather than a crass hate hate track that would start when the family finds out about the supposed affair. if Shaym has to be shown grey they could show him secretly wanting Khushi, when Khushi is married to Arnav or soemthing of that sort. This crass evil depiction of Shyam does not make sense. there are other reasons for Arnav to marry Khushi suddenly and still call her a gold digger

Shyam''s desire for kushi has never been explained properly..on top of that they have shown Shyam as a very helpful person and when he is with Anjali and family ..he is very nice...except when it comes to Kushi. Its all so confusing... dont know whether in future they will explain his actions or just make him a complete villain. He has already hidden kushis dads medicine ..so he can even harm kushis dad.

Why does Shyam like kushi is also not explained...does he have many other wives..

I have given up they will show any logical explanation to his actions.

The CVs have done a poor job with Shyam's character, we should've seen how he and Anjali met and how they got married. Did he ever love her or was he always like this? Could there be more women who Shyam have used and hurt? Nothing has been explained

Hahahahha maybe Nani selected him for Anjali and Nani was just like Kushi's Bua where she is not even letting the father do some investigation to know the guy's reality.

Poor Bua will definitely get a big shock when she gets to know her Shyam babua's reality.

I really hope Shyam doesnot know about the plates.

Actually I was thinking today Anjali meeting with Shashi babu has some significance. What do you think?

And another question I have is whom will Nani believe once shyam's reality is out, Kushi or Shyam?
