Maybe bcoz Payal being the introvert out of two doesn't have enough confidence in herself to get a job. Atleast she should make an attempt.

That is a good question
I have been wondering that for a long time now
I guess payal is too shy to work outside, while khushi is out going
I guess being the elderst her job is to take care of the household, but shouldn't buaji do that...i guess not she is too busy worrying and thinking of shyam to do anything.
Well i guess it is an indian drama, so anything is possible, i mean anything

Hey Aveksha...very good question...and one that has been asked from time to time...
The only thing that comes to me, and sort of what Anita said above, is that some girls just grow up with a mindset of being a home-maker...( and I mean in this in the nicest possible way...so don't get me wrong)...their ultimate goal is to get married and be a good wife and mother. And their parents train them to excel in the household matters, but they are like fish without water in a work environment. I think Payal is like that. Khushi, on th eother hand is like the son Shashi and Garima never had.
If you think back, the very first epi of this show had Payal wedding day and where was Khushi? She was on her scooty, scampering over the town, looking for her Jijaji. Even later, when her parents and she go to that shop-owners place to settle the accounts, it is Khushi who takes the lead in ensuring that the bill adds up right and then retorts to all that fake pataoing of the shop-keeper. We never saw Payal driving the scooty ever...she probably doesn't even know how. Now that is not to say that if situation turns really dire, and Khushi's efforts are not sufficient to keep the family afloat, Payal will not venture out. But for now, it does not come naturally to her.
We have to remember that they are a traditional, lower middle class family, where Khushi is really the exception to the rule ...Payal is how most girls really are in that segment of the society.

I dont why Payal is not thinking about doing a job. I think she may not be educated as khushi or she is not as courageous as khushi
