New interview of Mahek Producer Saurabh Tewari

http://www.indianwikimedia.com/television/personalities/always-tough-going-mahek-stiff-competition-slot-producer-saurabh-tewari/2017/10/21

His thoughts on IPKKND:

Another big challenge came our way when Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3 launched in July this year; the entire unit was under tremendous pressure from brand Barun Sobti.

It's brand Barun Sobti which put pressure on producer & unit of competitive show and Not Brand IPK!😳

Sobtians always knew that Barun sobti is much above than brand IPK...Now we got confirmation from big producer of shows like madhubala, Mahek, gulam, rangrasiya...😳

The fact that he has said this after show went off air clearly indicates that brand Barun Sobti is not affected by ipk3 result...that's what brand means...For example, in BW no producer want to clash with Brand Khan movies...though movie result depends completely on story, at the end, result wont affect the brand...Brand will be always a brand!😃

He is right in saying that actors like Drashti dhami and Barun Sobti brings with them a fan base which has higher expectations.I don't agree that actors should be made to bear the cost if a drama goes off air. Producer (usually) don't have their private life disturbed as compared to lead actors who can't even say a single word without the fear that it would be twisted by media and fans. In fact, I believe that producers should pay extra to these actors who bring free PR to their show and their presence make sure that no matter what certain fans will watch the show. IPK3 was not liked by many people but the fact remains that it manage to constantly pull a trp of 1-1.1 which indicates the star power.

ipk3 always had a loyal fan base
who really loved and supported the show all through
but that was marred by a handful of haters

In my opinion SP's handling of IPK3 shows a complete lack of competence and integrity, therefore the brand that has been most damaged by the IPK3 debacle has been SP.

1) From the IPK3 promos (which I think are the most authentic representation of what the real Advay/ adni story was supposed to be) - it is clear what the story and character that Barun had signed up for his return to TV. How SP thought that story was suitable for 8pm slot on SP makes we wonder how committed SP were to the real adni story. SP were well aware of the base story, a revenge love story, was a new concept and therefore the story should have been given sufficient time to attract the trp audience, changing the story from week 3 does not show any commitment. Neither the adni story or the character unlayering had even started at this point. It feels like SP wanted brand Barun Sobti back on SP but not the story or the character that he had chosen to return with, and it was his choice, Barun had turned down other shows and characters. Which as a Barun fan upsets me. It is well known that IPK1/Arnav was supposed to be a much darker story but was evolved into a romantic-comedy, did SP always plan to do the same for IPK3?

2) Barun had been away from the trp audience for 5 years, online popularity should never have been used to set initial expectations for trps. The fact SP did makes me wonder how well they understand the TV audiences or tribal mentality of the star/show fandoms. I am sure had the real adni/advay story been told for a couple of months, Barun (+Shivani, Ritu) would have created enough magic to create an organic buzz about the show that the trp would have grown over time. Those resisting watching Barun's new show, for whatever reasons would have been won over too and the trps would have improved.

3) SP at the end of the day make money out of their advertising revenue, not the TRPs, so unless they were losing advertising revenue with IPK3, they should have allowed time for the TRPs to rise. By all accounts IPK3 was one of the most highest profile show of the year, so I would presume advertisers were happy being associated with IPK3, the show most definitely was getting its fair share of publicity.

Finally, the fact that SP brought back the king of romance in a love-story and then decided to take the show off air before we got to see Advay start his romantic journey must have been celebrated by all other Channels, PHs and fandoms. I have no doubt that Barun as Advay in love would have set a new benchmark for romance, I am so gutted about the fact that we the fans, wont get to see that and Barun never got to do the iconic scenes that he as an actor wanted to do when he agreed to portraying advay.

I feel so bad we didn't get to see the full story
I am sure they were getting a lot of ad's
if only they had given the show enough time
seems they got overwhelmed by the bashing
as it was wholly on a different level

Totally agree with what you are saying Sana - SP should have thought about what they wanted to show and figure out which time slot would have gotten them the numbers. A Dark Revenge story is not suitable for 8PM viewing. They had good concept but they should have given attention to the writing and technical team. The costumes, the back story should all have been thought out tight and the technical team in place before the show went on air. Without all this ground work expecting the show to rake in numbers is pure stupidity.

Barun is a brand in himself so both the channel and the PH should have understood that there is no need to fall back on the same Rabbave, title and surname to attract the audience. They should have gone for something different so as to reduce the negativity but nope both the channel and the PH instead of tightening their ship were busy fighting with the vicious fandom thereby fanning the negativity more. I say only the actors behaved in a professional manner here and that is the most sad part - They didn't get their due for their hardwork.

@bold:- Totally agree. Now SP has become a laughing stock among all other PHs and Channels. If you don't have guts to stick to something then don't even start. Colors is getting back their iconic shows as season 2 - I am sure they will rake in good numbers because they will give sufficient time to get the new audience hooked in. SP wants instant results and that is why nothing is working for them. All of SP's shows are getting TRPs which is in the same range as Star Bharat - the newest channel on block. They are not having an idea - Just run behind the newest fancy thing that is out on block. They promoted weekend shows Laughter challenge and Lip Sync battle so much but it is getting pathetic trps. Chalo let them enjoy. I think SP will be stuck at number 4 for a very long time.

Jo bhi ho I am glad this fiasco ends the IPK chapter once and for all. Barun has been taken on ride for by the channel and the PH but definitely next time around he will be extra careful in just agreeing to what the PH is saying and the channel is proposing. You learn from your mistakes so I am glad this will help Barun to stay off IPK forever.
