What if we get a glimpse of Dev on Advini's first night.
DEV KI EK JHALAK
Picking up a fainted Chandini in his arms,
Advay carried her frail body to their room and placed her on their bed.
Arranging some cushions, he rested her head softly on the pillows and stared at her intently for a long time. His expressions turned tender seeing her unconscious form and unknowingly a smile curved on his lips. Breaking apart his gaze after a while, he sat by the window with his guitar looking at the stars.
The atmosphere was serene and calm so he took a deep breath and relaxed his posture. He started to play some light music taking care that he doesn't disturb her sleep. About half an hour later, Advay who was deeply engrossed in his thoughts heard Chandini's loud mumblings. He at once understood that she was probably getting the same nightmares which were medically termed as 'Post Traumatic Stress Disorder'.
He rushed to her side and embraced her upper body tightly to calm down her heavy breaths.
He rubbed her back continuously while his eyes became moist seeing her in this condition. Few minutes later, he felt her breathing normallly and sighed in relief. Coming out of the hug, Advay tucked some loose strands of hair behind her ear and wiped a lone tear on her cheek. Giving her a loving and longing look, he said
Yaad hai teri sharartein
Nahi bhoola teri aadate
Zikra kabhi chhoota nahi inn labo se
Tu taazaa hai dil mei, shab jaise
(I remember your mischievousness
I didn't forget your habits
My lips never fail to discuss about you
You are fresh in my heart just like a dew drop)
Tears pooled his eyes at the next set of words and said in a complaining voice
Kisi dil ke kone ne
Ummeed ki thi ke tu pehchaane
Bhool gayi Dev ko apne
Kya mod liya meri zindagi ne
(A small corner of my heart
Hoped that you would identify me
You have forgotten your Dev
My life has taken some irreversible turns)
Positioning her sleeping form on his lap, he grinned in happiness as he recalled the good old days.
Tera roothna
Mera manana
Tu thi natkhat
Kaatilaana woh muskuraahat
(When you sulked in anger
I pacified you
You were so notorious
You had a killer smile)
Still lost, his hands automatically worked to smoothen her hair.
Hamaare dosti ke kisse
Ab bhi hai iss dil ke hisse
Har waqt woh yaad aaye
Dil ko tadpaaye
(Our tales of friendship
Are still a part of my life
I recollect it every time
It makes my heart yearn)
Smiling through his blurred vision, he looked at her affectionately and stated
Tu hai Chand ka noor
Hai jannat ki hoor
Tera chehra hai masoom
Inn aakho mei ho jaau gum
(You are a moonlight
Like a beautiful woman descended from heaven
Your face is innocent
I get lost in those eyes)
He caressed her cheeks lightly and his voice cracked as he uttered
Kiye the saath rehne ke waade
Milkar banaayenge haseen yaade
Sach hota yeh, ae rab
Agar 16 saal pehle naa hota woh sab
(We had promised to stay together
That we will create pleasant memories
This would have been possible
If only that incident wouldn't have occurred 16 years back)
Suddenly, he cuddled up with her and said in a possessive tone
Hoti hai jalan
Jab koi paas tere aaye
Dil mei ho chubhan
Jab tu nazre churaaye
(I feel jealous
Whenever someone else comes near you
It stabs my heart
When you don't look into my eyes and talk)
And then his hold loosened as if something struck him hard
Bol tere jhoothe
Diye hai dhokhe
Khoya tune mera vishwaas
Kabhi naa aa saku tere paas
(Your false words
Betrayed me
You lost my trust
I will never come close to you)
He grabbed her form and settled her on the paddings, he asserted in a fearful voice.
Yeh dil hai dukhta
Kyuki toda hai isse tune
Yeh dil hai darta
Tujhse pyaar naa ho jaaye isne
(My heart pains
Since you broke it
My heart fears
That it will fall in love with you again)
His throat clogged with tears as he said in a defeated tone.
Kho raha hu jeene ki himmat
Hai teri zaroorat
Mere jeevan mei aake Chandini
Phaila do apni roshini
(I am losing my gest to live
I need you
Come in my life, Chandini
And light it up with your brightness)
Advay gave a peck on her forehead and switched off the bedside lamps. Pulling her in his arms, he fulfilled his desire to experience a peaceful slumber which he has been craving since 16 long years.
