So...I have watched a bit of this show out of boredom and Barun's acting bugs me a lot. I watched very little of the first installment of the show (hated it). From the little I have watched, his acting seemed meh back then also. However, due to the terrible script, his stilted acting is being thoroughly revealed in this installment IMO. My list of complaints,

1. His dialogue delivery. Is he a Future (a rapper famous for his mumbling) impersonator or an actor? The world will never know. I can barely hear anything clearly.

2. His inability to cry well onscreen. His emotions leave me cold. His emotional scenes are so stilted and unnatural.

3. There is something exceedingly stiff and awkward about his body language, giving his acting an air of sheer dullness. There is no spark within.

4. Voice modulation. Has he heard of it?

Overall, I have come across plenty of Shivani criticism and she is pretty bad too IMO but god, Barun really needs to work on his craft. For an experienced actor with hype, he is just...not good in my opinion. I understand that very few people can raise above such shoddy script and characterization but Barun seems literally lifeless. This is an acting criticism post since his job is to act and please different sets of people who are not in his fanbase and don't wear rose-tinted glasses. This is also a forum (and not a fanclub) so criticism is encouraged one would hope.

GIrl,
You have done it...but just in case you haven't figured out what I am talking about ...here is a clue...😃

😆.

EDIT
Jokes and name calling of viewers apart...I don't see much merit in your list of criticism except ...the first point about Barun mumbling his dialogues at times...That can definitely use improvement at times.

My opinion...
He is definitely not stiff
HIs voice modulation is actually very good
And he is by far the BEST MALE ACTOR I have seen in any crying scene period. But of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion...i hope not everyone who disagrees with anyone's "opinion" would be belittled by labeling them a "fangirl".

Good thing that I am not scared of online fangirls. My criticism of his acting is as valid as their praise.

Interesting opinion. If anything, I think the experienced actors like Barun and Ritu Shivpuri are actually rising above the shoddy script. Which, even as a fan of the show, I can admit is a bit of a mess. The first two weeks were, frankly, horrid. It got better, MUCH better. Then these last two weeks have also taken a dip in a number of aspects which I'm mainly putting down to the fact that they had to rush to get the wedding done and dusted. It's only NOW that the real story will start, methinks.

I've also noticed Barun mumble a few times but not nearly enough for it to be a complaint. So gonna disagree with you on that.

Gonna also disagree with the emotional scenes, but hey that might be 'cause I'm known to be an oversensitive fool I cry over anything and everything. Especially fictional characters and the stories which I get invested in. He's good at crying onscreen, especially in that scene Advay had with his Nani the first time she was introduced.

Not quite sure what you mean about stiff. Do you mean he looks like a rigid plank or...?

His voice breaks when he's crying, it also has a bite to it when he's portraying anger. So I think his voice modulation is good.

Shivani I think, at this stage, is average. She's only shone in a couple of scenes (for eg. when she has a panic attack on the bench). As for the rest of it, her character hasn't seen much development yet so I'm giving it time and hoping she rises to the challenge of the new facets of 'Chandni' she'll get to portray. I'm rooting for her.

I hope you watch a few episodes on-and-off post this marriage track. I've crossed my fingers and toes that the writers, creative team etc. pull their pants up and give us the story we were promised. Otherwise yeah...not gonna tell you to 'just don't watch then'. Don't worry 😆

1) This is the only point I would agree with. He Mumbles a lot and even though his dialogue delivery has improved over the years it can still get better. But personally I don't have any issue with it.
2)na totally disagree. May be there were better actors before but from my last 5-6 years experience of Hindi tv shows , he is one of the best. There is a child like vulnerability he displays while crying , it makes you root for khadoos characters like Arnav and advay. Even during the hate marriage tracknin season one, i was never able to completely hate him because with that one emotional break down scene he managed to make people sympathise with him.

3) nope, advay and Arnav have a stiff body language. In tanhaiyan I never felt any stiffness, he was cool. In baat hamari pakki hai , he was a total energy ball.

4)as ghissapita said, in emotional scenes his voice breaks, in romantic scenes it becomes husky. His voice modulation is what which makes us connect with the character even if he mumbles

Except for the third and second last week the show was totally inconsistent and its Barun and Ritu who is holding the show . So yeah he has risen above the script.

But the main point is no actor in the world can please all set of audience. But I have seen a lot of his haters later becoming his fans. From your post what I understand is you have jut seen bits and pieces of his show and thats not enough to form an opinion on someone. That said , may be even if you watch his best scene, you might still not like him. Some people don't like his subtle acting. That's a personal preference.

now, in his defense ( though I think he and ritu r the only ones that r doing a bit of acting here ) , trying to get in his shoes and talk here 1) it's just the script that's getting worse by the day...2) and exact ditto repeat of scenes he's been doing from his previous err...work(s).. where is the challenge...he does seem in and out of the role..3) plus the lack of proper responding co actor that can give and take equally in all kinda scenes... .. ...hopefully she starts to get better at this soon...plus her characterization is still not too likable..and today's marriage episode was like ...it's too obvious now... anyways... all thatloads of jewelry , costumes and sets are just...plus it's the hate marriage track ..he's done this two times before already ... may be he's just bored .. and all the talk of different story , different role different characterization turns out still the same ..may be he's just bored ..cos it's no unique story after all...'... But but but , he still looks amazing :)😃..

Hmm, thanks for addressing my concerns instead of replying with strange memes. Yeah, I don't think there is any form of elevation happening with the acting, it's as bad overall as the accompanying script. I suppose the general viewers (non fans) believe the same. I mean, I am yet to see a lot of non-Sobti fans praising the acting in the one hour I have been in the forum. So I suppose there is some truth to it? The acting is lifeless from everyone involved. Good that you are optimistic but this is a shoddily put together show that's going nowhere. For your sake, I hope it gets better.

1. Hmm, his dialogue delivery is one of the worsts I have heard personally but yeah personal preference. I literally cannot understand majority of dialogues, he eats most of it.

2. His voice modulation is problematic due to his troubling dialogue delivery. He has a soft voice that's not necessarily monotonous but it's inconsistent and unsuitable. Voice modulation doesn't mean one only has to change a bit of the texture to sound different. That's a given. It's the change in the fabric of the voice and diction. I have so much problem with that. Actors must necessarily master dialogue delivery and shift in the fabric of voice. That one small shift while crying isn't it. It's a balance of forcefulness, good diction and constant motion.

3. Yeah, I meant there is something awkward about his body language. It looks unconvincing 90% of the time. There is a stiffness in both body and in facial muscles.

4. His emotional scenes leave me cold because his breakdowns are some of the weakest acting in my opinion. But again, it's personal preference. His emotions are inadequate for me. Nothing moves me about his performance. It's lifeless.

Sorry the above order is jumbled but this is the gist. Anyway, Shivani's character is written awfully and she is mostly a bad actress so I suppose she can't rise above until it gets better.
