U read correctly. only 1 to 1.5 lakh people r deciding the content of our desi soaps n fate of so many people. Its not some random info. Its from Barc. They installed 1 lakh Bar-o-meters in some randomly selected households across the country by the end of Dec.2016. Most of these Meters r installed in the hindi speaking states like U.P, Bihar, M.P, n Rajasthan. South India has very few of them. They didn't take the permission of the family/household in which they r installing this meter previously. But now they say that they r taking the consent of the household n providing some type of remotes to them n asking them to press the buttons required b4 watching a program on TV. And the duration has to be at least 2 r 3 min. to record the time spent on that particular program. Then the meter records that.
They collect this data every week. their week starts from Sunday n closes on Saturday. On every Sunday they process the entire data n provide the results to the channels n PHs on Monday. So the Channels n PHs have every minute details of their program n they can make changes accordingly. That's why we have changes from Wednesday episodes as the channel takes the episodes 2 days prior to its telecast.
So this is the story of the TRPs of our desi soaps. If u r from any south indian city/state like me don't even bother about these No.s as we don't know how many meters r installed in these parts of the country. We got this info directly from Barc last yr when some of my friends had a serious chat with those people on bird land. They might have installed some in these parts of the country by now.
