She took a deep breath and for the first time in many hours broke her gaze from the holy Ganga that could be clearly seen from her bedroom window. During her growing up years she remembered spending hours glancing at the mighty Ganga for hours in solitude, her austere saffron colour during the early dawn, her radiant fresh yellow mornings, her pale and pious evening and her vivacious glow when thousands of diyas each carrying millions of hope fluttering in at night. River Ganga had many shades but all of them kept coming back making Chandni realise that love of ones hometown and family was constant no matter how harsh a turn life would take at times. When she came back from captivity she was completely traumatised but looking at the river healed her to a great extent. Before that after Dev suddenly disappeared from her life she would write endless letters to him sitting next to this very window looking at the little boats that sailed through Ganga assuming that one of them would bring her Dev back to her. She closed her eyes for she could not bear the tight knot in her throat while remembering him. Her mentor, her best friend who had now turned into a hard and cold power hungry businessman. All those years when she thought of Dev as a grown up she imagined a clean shaven smiling face with kindness radiating from his soul. Not once had she thought that her Dev would never come back instead a ruffian named Advay Singh Raizada would come to claim her in marriage as if she was his reward. She recalled a month back when Indrani was elated to hear about this marriage proposal and had quite frankly stated to Chandni that amidst the financial crisis that the Vasishth were going through this marriage proposal was like a boon by Mahadev himself. As for her father a man who had been suffering from dementia suddenly remembered Dev as his best friends son and wanted the marriage to take place as soon as possible. The only two reasons why Chandni said yes to the marriage was because marrying Advay meant that her mother would have full autonomy to the temple treasure as Advay was the former Mahanth's elder son which would ultimately mean best education and best marriage prospectives for her sisters and security and financial aid to the countless old age homes and orphanages that her family was supporting. Apart from that she had never seen her father in such good health condition. As for her, she was just happy that everyone else was happy and was stuck with the unsized ring that he had given her during the engagement. Strangely, the big ring made her smile for she distinctly remembered his ring being smaller than his size.
"Chandni soon it will be time for the Arati beta get ready." Indrani called out from the door.
"Yes ma", she replied.
"You are not only my daughter but also my pride". Chandni smiled meekly at her mother realising that she had to perform a somber religious ritual in front of thousands of people and also Advay Singh Raizada.
