There are those who give their life a meaning by making an honest living. Then there are those who, feather their nest, amass wealth by the misuse of their power and position invested upon them by the people, faith, or the state. The title alludes to birds preparing their nest to lay eggs. Within the story line, the vashists fit into the role of those people who for sixteen long years have done much to live a life of affluence and luxury. Advay comes as the one who will surely question the validity of their good fortune. His arrival in town may be sound muffled in general, but for his targeted family its loud enough to steal their peace of mind. Yet both Advay and the Vashists hold their piece as it's all very civilized on the outside.
Nests or habitats matter not just to birds only but to humans as well. Nests or home is not just about a marked territory as for animals. But for humans home is also a monument of their memories, relationships, connections with loved ones. For Advay, his habitat has a wall pasted with a catalogue of his dark and tragic past. The pictures serve as a reminder of the task at hand, which he has to undertake to avenge the appalling gruesome untimely deaths of his parents. As it is, he waited patiently for sixteen years for the arrival of this hour when he can carry out his crusade. It's interesting to note that where he has only a loyal servant Murli to cater to his day to day needs, like home cooked food. Chandni in her house is fussed over and fed by her siblings. Most unlikely, are both Advay and Chandni ,where he is into takeaway mild foreign cuisine. Chandi is into the neat bite of fresh green chilli. Whereas Advay is clumsy and untidy. Chandni is a stickler for tidiness. Its interesting to note also, that Advay has a huge selection of dishes to whet his appetite, but they all go untested by him. It's like he hungers for partaking a family meal prepared by his mother.. the memory sickens him and puts him off eating hardly anything. Chandni on the other hand in the safe haven of her family nest, is empowered by her sisters for standing up to the bearded monster. While Chandni reinforces sibling love. Advay can only talk to Murli about his forthwith, ongoing investigations about unravelling who else was involved in the plot to murder his parents sixteen years ago. Its like he has no time for anything else except what happened sixteen years ago. Chandi and sisters prank, holding and concealing themelves under their quilt is a symbol of the blanket of security ,their nest and their family gives them! It is notable that Indrani the matriarchal figure head of the family walks in, and sees her daughters enjoying the game. She smiles that's what she aspires for, that her daughters are cloistered , safe in their nest, away from the ways of the big bad world...
Bar the troubled Advay , all have a nest they can relate to as home .. Veer too has a cosy nest with his foster parents, in whose lap he landed some sixteen years ago. While Advay carries on deprived of a family or a family home. Veer is the apple of his foster parents eyes. Seems they were an issue less couple and Veer it appears to them was god sent! Veer's life is lined with happiness, and he is motivated and backed by his parents into carving himself a career that provides him job satisfaction.
Those who feather their nests, by unfair means, end up in gilded cages! As soon for want of finances, Indrani begins to , realizes that their pilfered wealth cannot buy permanent contentment and happiness, they forever have to look to the temple treasury for supplement funding. Indrani puts in restraining fund spending measures. Barley instead of wheat will be used because apart from being a cheaper opition,but also because Chandni checked on internet that its a healthy option too. No wonder shaku and kajal are fedup of Chandni! as she being only a young girl ! has their sister wrapped around her little finger! With her sense and sensibility! Thus to me its vivid that the two mausi's will drag Chandni's negativity before Inderani whenever possible so she loses favour with their ji ji..
Advay Singh Raizada may be without a home and a family. Yet single handily, he has the clout to make an impression where ever he goes. It's like he makes headlines! Both sets of sisters young and old, make him a topic of discussion that revolves around Chandni. With Meghna and Shika he comes across a bad boy.. more so, because he maligned their sister. Where shikha is ready to rip him apart! Meghna supplies some important facts of this high profile bad boy.. a Londoner, minstrel, mathematician and loaded dirty rich! Chandni only gets FB's of his outrageous encounters with her.. she'd rather not hear about him. But Meghna gives Advay a clean chit! regards the poster incident, given his image ,he most likely is not involved in the incident. But the tongue wagging aunties..bend Indrani's ears that it's possible he might be Chandni's boyfriend, seeing she's latched on to the internet all the time! Indrani does buy the story.. especially when both the sisters, also taunt ,that due to Chandni's disgrace ,Yash will most likely lose his position as the head trustee of the treasury , due to Chandni's disgrace prompted by this man. The implications are dire.. they will lose access to the treasures and wealth of the temple. When it boils down to this, Indrani quits her verbal support of Chandni's virtue plus she out rightly blames Advay for the poster act... she is anxious about the slippage of the opportunity of feathering her nest!
Knock some over with a feather! Advay barges in with a man in tow! He. comes to shock, confuse, astonish! All present to a point! throwing the vashist women in a loop! Thus begins his, yet another game of stealing the peace of this household. Clarifies his good name! by providing this man as a decoy to dupe Indrani into believing that this man printed the posters! He brought him here so he can reveal the meaning of disgracing the daughter of this house he taunts, Indrani . The man reveals, he was asked by some man who sounded like a man or woman, he couldn't tell... that he was given money for the job.. the man also adds.. that the caller said he has to settle a sixteen year old score. Advay threatens to take the man to the police to see if his story has credibility ! he knew Indrani wouldn't want police involvement. He is right, as Indrani takes Advay to the side and requests to close the matter as it involves the daughter of the house.
Cloak in dagger tact, secretive and part of his plot, to dupe he turns to the winsome Chandni, with a glint in his eye he exploits the gender issue. What gender bias! that the poster has him a man and her daughter! Yet it's unfair that he's let off, being man. But the daughter is disgraced due to being a woman! Advay's bid to sell his clean boy image. Advay inclines over Chandni looks her directly in the eyes and mockingly apologizes that someone took their photo yesterday.. he could have averted this from happening.. had he caught it in time! and he walks to the front door ,opens it , then turns, looks over his shoulder to catch her fleeting glimpse ..she too stares back, thinks of a spate of run ins with him, which show as anxiety on her face. He winks at her on his way out. a reassuring wink, he has things in hand, not to worry her pretty little head.
Last scene is Advay's use of a decoy as much is at stake for him that requires his investigative skills! His prior knowledge of someone blackmailing them turns as the perfect decoy he needs to beguile, lure ,ensnare to trap both the Vashists and their blackmailer, to suit his purpose. Shilpa , his planted mole informs him that they think the poster incident is the handiwork of the blackmailer which leaves him in the clear! She also tells him of a fresh letter from the blackmailer demanding money.. from them. Should they agree.. they hang an empty cage as a sign of agreement on the terrace. For Advay seeing the empty cage dangling on the vashist terrace is a sign to entrap and confine another involved in making his spirit captive of the dark memories of his past..
What comes to surface is the meticulous manner in which Advay plays mind games with the Vashists. How their weaknesses, become his strength to suit his intent, which is to explore all involved in ruining his life. He plans to expose the Vashists , identify their blackmailer.. and break a girls heart as well.. which may not be as easy as it appears.. so the next day he turns up, holds the girl close..looks into her bewildered ,eyes, he has something for her.. from far Indrani looks on..and wonders.. him again?
